MEMORANDUM

While in Pennsylvania in July, where I arrived one day too late,
to attend the funeral of our Cousin Mrs. Gertrude Hill Stearns
(widow of the late Mr. John Henry Stearns) I visited at the home
of our cousin Thomas H. Low at Pleasant Valley, Bucks County,
Pa. During the visit Tom., brought out Grandfather Jacob Hill's
Bible to show the family record therein. The record was on both
sides of a leaf which had word loose and Tom.m [sic] let me
take it along back to Chicago to have photostat copies made of
it. I had ten prints made and mailed out eight of them as above
indicated.

The reference to - Fitz - does not appear on the leaf but was shown
on the photostats by laying a rider on one side of the leaf. I found
the referance in a book while browsing around in the Philadephia
Public Library a few weeks before. While in South Bend, Indiana
on July 29-30, I was informed by our aunt Jennie Hill, that the
blurred figures for the birth year of our Uncle S. Wesley Hill were
1844 and that the dates of death of Uncles Thomas Jordan Hill and
Dr. Jacob W. Hill were September 24, 1917 and February 23. 1937.
respectively.

This for the information of the several recipients of photostats to which
they may add this data if they choose.

Chicago -- Illinois.

I suggest you arrange to have the photostat I sent you eventually to fall
into the hands of George Elliott Hill of Germantown, Pa.

I expect to be at - The Bear - by this time next week and after about
ten days up there to start eastward for the ports of Sydney and Halifax
in Nova Scotia. Back to Chicago about October 1st.

Martin Mayer, old Illinois Central conductor in our time showed up
in Chicago during the week and called on me last Tuesday. The next
day we took in a ball game and in the evening attended a professional
exhibition of wrestling.

He was retired two years ago and lives in Minneapolis. Was on the Great
Northern.

[handwritten around the sides ]

Martin is four years younger than me and we figured out that we two
and you are the only survivors of the old gang. We were the youngsters
at that time and Martin cannot find any old timers. He wanted to met
[sic] Peg Barker, an engineer, particularly. They ran through a Nickle
Plate train in a fog at the Burnside crossing one night.
