REMEMBERING CODY CARD

Remembering: Tributes and Memorials

Since December 1, 2010 friends and family, as we are able to raise our heads up from our deep grief, have been doing little things to remember Cody. Below are a few. Please send along what you have done to share with all of us.

If you have a photo or a story of Cody please share those pieces of him he shared with you.

By the end of December 2010 several of Cody's friends had asked for a photo of "Cody's redwood tree tattoo". One of his roommates, Sarah T. sent this photo a few days later of HER REMEMBERING CODY tree tattoo.

And here is another REMEMBERING CODY tattoo from Cody's girlfriend of a little over a year, Autumn Wheeler.

From: YouthAbility News
"In memoriam: Cody Card 1989-2010 We will all miss Cody, who died in a tragic accident December 1. Cody Card-Hershberger volunteered at Angels of Hope for several years and made lasting friends among the staff and trainees. He was, as our assistant manager said, the stores mascot. Always ready to lend a hand, make a joke, and be a part of the team, Cody went on to work with the California Conservation Corps and at Fire and Light, as well as volunteering at North Coast Resource Center, Ink People Center for the Arts, and Vector Rehabilitation. His energy and dedication are an inspiration to us all!"

Cody's Wall in the hall
I had just painted the hall in November. My grand daughter Phela and Cody had chosen the color (Benjamin Moore Aruba Blue). I had the photos stacked up to put them back on the wall before Christmas....so before I did that I kept painting and gave Cody's wall his tree tattoo....and I added my own gifts....a turtle and a baby hummingbird. Cody knows what they mean.
Eureka December 2010

Cody's Wall in the Hall with the photos back up....we have added a beautiful painting of her garden sent for Cody (he LOVED his "Mernie's" garden!) from his paternal grandma Geta Hershberger, and a photo from Cody's friends in the Cs given to us recently.

Cody's Looney Tune cup collection
These cups have been a part of "Mom's kitchen" since the early nineties when the collection began. Cody's nieces use the cups, and Cody has explained to both of them that he is glad they use his cups, but they need to take care of them. He always reminded them these are HIS cups, they just live at his Mom's house.

Cody was particularly charmed one day when four year old Phela told him the Bugs cup was the one she had chosen to use. After very careful measuring she had ascertained Bugs held more "cocoa and marshmallow brains" than do the other cups. Cody was so proud of her!

Cody's Looney Tunes have just become part of this home over the years. When I painted the kitchen, somehow this worked. Of course Cody loved it.

This awesome poster was made by Cody's friends in the California Conservation Corps. We put it up beside the memorial altar at the church for Cody's Memorial Service, then brought it home. We have it up in our bedroom currently. My intention is to eventually move it to my studio room-Cody's old bedroom here at home-that we have shared now for several years...where he will not come to sleep again.
