Purchase byWilliam McCoy of 79 Acres on Skaggs Creek
From Wm Wells Jr.
For $1,500
October 1868

This indenture made and entered into this 8th day of October 1868 by and between Wm Wells Jr & wife of the County of Barren State of Ky of the first part and W R McCoy of the same county and State aforesaid of the 2nd part Witnesseth for and in consideration of Fifteen hundred dollars Secured to be paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the said Wm Wells Jr & wife have and do by these presents give Sell and convey as S P W R McCoy a certain tract of land situated in Barren County Ky on Skaggs creek the same land or a part of the same land conveyed to Wm Wells Jr by Heargrove April 8th 1864 and laying on the South side of School creek abandoned by George Whillock & William Harlan suppose to contain Seventy nine acres more or less. To have & to hold -----? the S P McCoy his heirs and assigns forever and neither the said Wm Wells Jr & wife covenants to warrent & defend the title use & occupation of S P land all it's appurtenance from the claim or claims of all & every person whatever to him the S P McCoy his heirs & assigns forever.

In Witness Whereof the S P Wells & wife have given their hands and seals for the payment of the aforesaid consideration the S P Wm Wells Jr retains a lein on S P land

I J P Nuckols Clerk of the County Court for Said County certify that the forgoing deed from Wm Wells & Saleman his wife to W R McCoy was on the 9th day of Oct 1868 acknowledged before J A Locke an acting deputy for me by hand Wells & wife to be their act and deed Whereupon the same of this certificate have been recorded in my office the proper stamp being attached assigned by an act of congress Given under my hand this 24th day of November 1868
