Located on Manila Street near the heart of Lucedale, about ½ block south of main-street you will find a very nice monument to those veterans that served and are still serving our nation. Some of these gave their life in defense of this nation and they are recognized on a large brass plaque located in the center of the display. There is an American flag also displayed behind the brass plaque. You will see a wall on both sides of the plaque. On each side there are a total of 396 individual bricks. Each brick is inscribed with the name of a local veteran, for a total of 792 bricks, some of the bricks contain multiple names. Easily over 800 names are here as a tribute to their service to "Our Great Nation. Each wall contains 12 rows of memorial bricks, each row is made up of 33 individual bricks. To locate a particular veteran on either of these two walls, simply stand in front of the large brass plaque. Now looking to your left, I have numbered the rows like lines in a book (1-the top row, through 12 the bottom row). The top left brick in row one is that of Charles T. Howell and is numbered (1-1). Your left side will contain the bricks numbered from (1-1) and ending with (12-33). The last brick in row 12 is that of John A. Welford and is numbered (12-33). Next look to the right side, the top left brick in the top row on this side will be numbered (13-1) and the last brick on your right in the bottom row will be numbered (24-33) I hope this will help when someone is looking for a particular name, but then again it is good to be able to see all the names as you search for your loved one.
