Allen Family of Indiana

Allen Family History

The earliest known Allen in my line is William Allen born about 1700, possibly in Baltimore Co., Maryland.  He supposedly married a Mary Welsh who was born about 1704, same place.  I have not confirmed this marriage nor any birth or death dates or places.

My Allen family were staunch Quakers up to my great grandmother Flora Allen Hedrick who died in 28 February 1932 in Grant Co., Indiana.  Most of my data was obtained from the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy.

This Allen family traveled from Maryland, to Pennsylvania, then to Blount Co., Tennessee, and on into various counties of Indiana, namely Miami and Grant.

My great grandmother's family has proven to be illusive in the census.  According to a biography, her father, William Allen, Jr., supposedly went to Kansas at one point, then came back to Indiana to live the rest of his life.  His first wife and Flora's mother, Frances Veach, died in 1872, then by 1886 he had married again to a Uretta Price.  The years in between 1870 and 1880 are a mystery, as this family can not be found by me in the census records.
