For the purposes of the Anderson & Andersen Family DNA Project, a Core Group is described as a group of individuals that have participated in DNA testing and have matched with at least one individual in a group.
How are Core Groups determined?
Core Groups are determined by the 12 markers test. You must match with at least one individual on the 12 Marker DNA test to be placed in a Core Group. If you do not match with anyone, you will be placed in the Non Assigned Group until another individual participates in the DNA study and matches with you on the 12 Marker DNA test.
What about Sub-Groups?
Sub-Groups are determined by who each individual in a Core Group matches with in that group. As an example, we'll use Core Group #11. There are 7 individuals in the Core Group. William Jeffrey Anderson matches with 4 individuals; James, Orville and Eric William match with 3 individuals; Halley Ray, Jack, and Gary Earnest only match with one individual.
The Sub-Groups will continue to change as new participants test out in a Core Group. For that reason, I will not list the Sub Groups on this website. However, I will tell you all of the individuals in a Core Group and who each of the individuals in that group match with. At that point, you should contact the individuals you match with so that you can form a working partnership with each other to further your research efforts.
Remember that the 25, 37 and 67 Marker tests gives you a clearer picture of who your line may be related to. Initially the 12 Marker test revealed William Jeffrey matched with 4 individuals. However, the 37 marker or 67 marker may reveal he's more closely related to only 1 of those initial 4 individuals.
My suggestion is to form your Sub-Group based on the results of the 12 Marker test and then narrow your most closely related individual(s) as you continue to test on the 25, 37 and 67 marker test. The basis of this stradegy is that the 12 marker test groups you with individuals you're related to and as you continue to test further you find out who you are more closely related to.

From a research angle, each of the individuals in the Core Group should study the lineage of the individual(s) he matches with. This will help you to determine where the matching family lived, families they migrated with, or maybe you match with a family that has proven their lineage back to the early 1700's. If you're lucky to match with someone that already has their lineage proven, you can start where the proven lineage begins and then try to work your lineage backwards to that family. You might have to skip a generation to make a partial determination until you find the proper documentation to prove your line, but continue to gather as much documentation to make your best connection with a family.
