Edwin married Kate Liversidge on 5 June 1900 in Swinton . He was a miner aged 20. His father was also a miner and resident at 8 Station Street. Kate was aged 19. Her father was Alfred Liversidge, a potter who was resident at 58 Middleton Villas. (APR) This agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 1250 Jun 1900)

Somewhat puzzling, when the marriage was reported in the Mexborough and Swinton Times a week or so later on 15 June 1900, Edwin is referred to as Edward:

ARDRON–LIVERSIDGE

On Tuesday, this 5th inst., the wedding was solemnised at St. Margaret’s Church, Swinton, of Miss Liversidge, second daughter of Mr. Alfred Liversidge, of Middleton Villas, and Mr. Edward Ardron, of Station street, Swinton. The bridesmaids, three in number, were Miss Sarah Ardron (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Minnie Liversidge (niece), and Miss Alice Ardron, the two latter being little girls. The bride’s dress was of slate cord, trimmed with orange, and white picture hat to match. She was given away by her father, and the sermon was performed by the Rev. W. J. Peacey. Miss Ardron was attired in a neat fawn skirt, with cream blouse and hat to match. The two children’s dresses were of cream colour. Mr. Cuckson supplied the carriages. Tea was provided at the house of the brie, and a large number of relatives and friends were present ; after which the evening was spent in a convivial manner. My 3rd cousin twice removed was born on 28 March 1902 and was baptised on 30 March of that year in Swinton. Her father was a miner of 52 Charles Street. (APR) The birth agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 829 Mar 1902) Though it should be noted that Paul Ardron IV has her date of birth as 27 February.

On Sunday, at the Swinton Wesleyan Church, by the Rev. Dennie Kemp, Mr. Alf. Vardy, sone of Mr. and Mrs. L. Vardy, of Wortley Avenue, Swinton, was married to Miss Annie Ardron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ardron, Station street, Swinton. The service was choral, the organist being Mr. Harold Beech, and the hymns, “All praise to our Redeeming Lord” and “O perfect love” were sung. Miss Ardron, who wore a dress of navy silk marocain with silk fringe trimmings, and a hat of navy georgette and fawn, and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations, was given away by her father. She was attended by Miss Lucy Church, by the Rev. Dennie Kemp, Mr. Alf. Ardron, who wore bois du rose crepe-de-Chine, with hat to match, and Miss D[?] Vardy, in figured crepe-de-Chine, with pleated contrasting front and grey crinoline hat. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were of pink and cream roses. The best man was Mr. Walter Vardy, and the groomsman was Mr. Ben Ardron. A reception was held after the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, where Mrs. Ardron received the guests in a gown of black silk marocain with hat to match. The bride travelled in a navy repp dress and navy hat.

At Swinton Parish Church, on Saurday, Miss Alice Ardron, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ardron, 8 Station Street, Swinton, was married to Mr. Roderic Scholey, only son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Scholey, of Glen Wood House, Swinton. The Rev. T. G. Rodgers officiated at the choral service. Mr. Mawson was organist. The bride, given away by her father, was attired in a turquoise blue two-piece, with hat to match, trimmed in fox fur. She carried pink carnations. Miss M. Scholey and Miss E. Scholey, sisters of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids, and wore navy coats, with dusty pink dresses and floral hat. They carried pink tulips. The best man was Mr. A. Ardron, brother of the bride, and Mr. G. Ardron was groomsman. The bridegroom gave the bridesmaids handbags. The bride’s mother wore a Chinchilla coat over blue dress, with navy hat to tone and the bridegroom’s mother a black ensemble and an amethyst hat.

My 3rd cousin twice removed was born on 27 June 1920 in the registration district of Barnsley. (GRO ref Barnsley 9c 567 Sep 1920 - Liversidge + date of birth on GRO death index) However the date of birth on the death index is likely to be wrong by 3 days, as the baptism record shows 24 June instead. On 29 September 1939 National Registration Day took place. The register shows Alfred living with his parents at 8 Station Street, Swinton. He was a student. (TNA r39_3741_3741a_002)

In 1941 Alfred graduated from the University of London with a First Class degree in Chemistry, as reported in the local newpaper the South Yorkshire Times:

EXAMINATION SUCCESS.– In the recent London University final degree examinations, Mr. Alfred Ardron, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ardron, of 8, Station Street, Swinton, obtained his B.Sc. degree with First Class Honours in Chemistry. Mr. Ardron commenced his education at the Swinton Bridge Council School where he obtained a County Minor Scholarship to Mexborough Secondary School. At School he obtained Matriculation and Higher School Certificate., together with a County Major Scholarship in 1939. He was a prefect from 1937 to 1939, Red Company captain, Athletics captain, and Victor Ludorum in 1939. He entered King’s College two years ago, and was evacuated to another town at the beginning of the war. Mr. Ardron hopes to take up a post as research chemist with Imperial Chemical Industries, Limited, in the near future.
