On 29 September 1939 National Registration Day took place. The register shows George and his wife Iris living with his aunt Alice Gamewell (nee Alice Ardron III (1888 – 1967)) at 26 Charles Street, Swinton:

Iris Annie LOWCOCK (1916 - 1982)
She was born on 22 November 1916 at 151 Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh. Her mother was Evelyn Lowcock (1895 - 1981). Her father is not recorded. (Alan Swallow + GRO ref Rotherham 9c 1361 Mar 1917 - Lowcock)

Interestingly, Iris is the niece of Florence Kate Ardron [daughter of Samuel Ardron VI] who married Herbert Lowcock, the brother of Iris's mother Evelyn.

1921 CENSUS?? AGED 5?

Iris became a nurse, and in August 1959 the local newspaper, the South Yorkshire Times, reported the following:
PRESENTATION.– After 13 years as a part-time relief nurse in the Wath Swinton and Rawmarsh Division, Nurse I. A. Ardron of “South View”, Crossland Road, Swinton, terminated her duties on July 31st. Divisional Medical Officer, Dr. D. J. Cusiter, last Friday presented her with a wristlet watch and a bouquet of carnations from nursing colleagues and the office staff at Dunford House. Nurse Ardron, who is a State Enrolled Assistant Nurse was formerly employed at Doncaster Royal Infirmary for ten years and gave up this post owing to illness. She joined the staff of the Oakwood Hall (Rotherham) tuberculosis sanatorium in June 19[?], remaining there until the outbreak of war. During that period she obtained a certificate in T.B. nursing. After the war she assisted the District Nursing Association at Swinton before the Division was formed. Nurse Ardron recently took up duties as a full-time works nurse with Baker and Bessemer of Kilnhurst.

Administration of her estate was granted at Leeds on 5 July 1982: "Ardron, Iris Annie of 2 Lawrence Drive Swinton Mexborough South Yorkshire died 26 May 1982. Administration Leeds 5 July. Not exceeding £2500 (824003883X)" (Wills & Admons 1982, Family Division of the High Court)
