My G-G-Great Grandfather was born in Killamarsh (DBY) in 1828. (Based on being aged 22 at marriage and aged 52 and location on the 1881 Census)

This agrees with him being baptised in Killamarsh on 30 November 1828. His father was John Ardron, a blacksmith of Killamarsh and his mother was Martha. (IGI + APR) However it should be noted that he was called James Beighton Ardron in the APR. (Photo - Killamarsh Parish Church)

On the 1841 Census (6 June) he was aged 12, living with his parents, two brothers and two sisters at Upperthorpe, Killamarsh, Derby. (PRO ref HO107/195/13/2/22/9/14)

James married Martha Sugden in the Parish Church of Rotherham on 14 October 1850. He was a miner, and his father was a smith. Martha's father was Joseph Sugden, a potter. Both James and Martha were from Rotherham. He was aged 22 and she was aged 24. Witnesses were William Ardron and Hannah Hicks. On the 1851 Census (30 March) he is aged 22, a coal miner and living with his parents at Old Lane, Mosbro, Eckington - though it should be noted that his wife is shown as living in Kilnhurst. (PRO ref HO107 piece 2148 folio 410 pg 15)

On the 1881 Census (3 April) James was listed as being the head of household for 90 Victoria Street, Kilnhurst. The record shows him as a widow, which ties in with the record of his wife, Martha, having died in 1878:

After the death of Martha in 1878, James married Ann Booth on 11 June 1882 at Kilnhurst. He was aged 54 and a widower/miner. Ann was aged 60 and a widow. Her father was John Wass, a miner. (APR) This agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 772 Jun 1882)

On the 1901 Census (31 March) James is shown as living at the household of George Moxon at 18 Hoyland Yard, Rawmarsh:

James died on 28 January 1902 at Holmes Yard, Rawmarsh, aged 73. He was a coal miner and died of bronchitis. The witness was N[aomi]. Coucom, daughter, of 24 Hardy Street, Thornhill, Rotherham. (GRO cert DXZ902203 + GRO ref Rotherham 9c 441 Mar 1902 - [aged] 73)

He was then buried two days later at St Mary's, Rawmarsh on 30 January. He was aged 73 and of Holmes Yard, Rawmarsh. (APR)

Martha SUGDEN (1826 - 1878)
My G-G-Great Grandmother was born in 1826. (Based on being aged 24 at marriage + aged 52 at death)

On the 1851 Census (30 March) Martha was head of household at Kilnhurst [her husband James is shown with his parents at Old Lane, Mosbro, Eckington]:

She was born in 1822. (Based on being aged 60 at marriage)

Ann died between the 1891 Census and 1901 Census

My G-G-Great Uncle was baptised on 30 July 1854 in Swinton. His father was James Ardron, a miner of Kilnhurst and his mother was Martha. (APR) This agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 373 Dec 1854)

Did John die in 1854? (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 269 Dec 1854 - poor quality) This would agree with him not being on the 1871 Census.

My G-G-Great Aunt was born on 26 May 1860 in the registration district of Rotherham. (APR + GRO ref Rotherham 9c 454 Jun 1860)

She was then baptised on 29 July 1860 in Kilnhurst. Her date of birth is shown as 26 May. Her father was James Ardron, a miner and her mother was Martha.  (APR)

On the 1861 Census (7 April) she was aged 1, living with her parents at Albany Row, Albany, Swinton. (PRO ref RG9 piece 3511 folio 57 pg 1)

On the 1871 Census (2 April) she was aged 10, a school girl, living with her parents at 82 Meadow Works, Rawmarsh. (PRO ref RG10 piece 4709 folio 27-28 pg 20-21)

Naomi was shown on the 1881 Census (3 April) as being a domestic servant to the household of Arthur Spencer (a wholesale grocer 19 hands) at 1 Colver Road, Ecclesall Bierlow  along with her sister Hannah:

Naomi married George Boldy on 7 August 1882 at the parish church of Sheffield  after Banns. She was aged 22, a spinster of Baud(?) Street. He was a maltster(?) of Sussex Street. Her father was a miner and his father was Benjamin Boldy, a labourer. The witnesses were William Hutchinson and Clara Weldon. (GRO cert MXA889059 + GRO ref Sheffield 9c 561 Sep 1882)

However shortly after the marriage George died on 12 January 1883. (See below)

Naomi went on to marry James Coucom. This ties in with her status as witness to her father's death in 1902. Though a record of this marriage still remains elusive. (Alan Swallow)

On the 1901 Census (31 March) Naomi was listed as wife of the head of household for 24 Hardy Street, Rotherham (though her husband [James Coucom] was not listed). This agrees with the address given for her on her father's death certificate:

The record shows Naomi having had a total of 7 children born alive in present marriage, 7 still living and 0 having died.

Although referred to as boarders, Aaron was Naomi’s new son-in-law having married her daughter Agnes.

George died on 12 January 1883 at 17 Blue Boy Street, North Sheffield. He was aged 22 and a labourer. The witness was Emma Boldy, mother, present at death. She was of 8 Sussex Street, Sheffield. (GRO cert DYA637999 + GRO ref Sheffield 9c 270 Mar 1883 - [aged] 22)

James COUCOM (1859 - 1936)
He was born in 1859. (Based on age at death) GRO REF??

My G-G-Great Aunt was baptised on 27 July 1862 in Kilnhurst. Her father was James Ardron, a miner and her mother was Martha.  (APR) This agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 445 Dec 1862)

On the 1871 Census (2 April) Theresa was aged 8, living with her parents at 82 Meadow Works, Rawmarsh. (PRO ref RG10 piece 4709 folio 27-28 pg 20-21)

She married Edwin Davis, though no record of the marriage can be found. (Sheila Mitra (nee Swallow))

In 1881 they were lodging at 52 School Lane, Eastwood View, Rotherham. (Sheila Mitra (nee Swallow))

In 1891 they were living at 61 Midland Road, Rotherham. (Sheila Mitra (nee Swallow))

He died in infancy and was buried on 21 September 1864 aged three months. (APR) This agrees with a GRO death index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 313 Sep 1864)
