John ARDRON VI (1875 -)

Father: William Henry Ardron (1852 -)
Mother: Maria Peace

Tree extract starting with common ancestor to me:

My 1st cousin 3 times removed was born circa 1874 in Rawmarsh. (Based on age + location at 1881 Census + age at marriage) However it was probably in 1875 based on the GRO birth index. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 646 Jun 1875)

On the 1881 Census (3 April) he was aged 7, a school boy, living with his parents at 27 New Street, Rawmarsh. (PRO ref RG11 piece 4679 folio 93 page 37)

On the 1891 Census (5 April) he was aged 17, a ?? [unintelligible], living with his parents at his widowed maternal grandmother’s residence, the Pack Horse Inn, Doncaster Road, Rotherham. (PRO ref RG12 piece 3846 folio 34 pg 62) -  Shown as Ardson on Ancestry.co.uk index

On the 1901 Census (31 March) he was aged 27, a coal miner hewer, living with his parents at 96 Green Lane, Rawmarsh. (PRO ref RG13 piece 4399 folio 20 pg 32) - Shown as Hardan on Ancestry.co.uk index

John married Rose Dallinson on 27 May 1901 at the parish church of Rawmarsh. He was aged 27, a bachelor and miner. His father was also a miner. Rose was aged 19 and a spinster. Her father was Herbert Dallinson, a miner. Both John and Rose were of Rawmarsh. Witnesses were Herbert Dallinson and Laura Charlesworth. (GRO cert MXB079560 + GRO ref Rotherham 9c 1231 Jun 1901)

On the 1911 Census (2 April) John was listed as head of household for 117 Pottery Street, Rawmarsh:

a) John Ardron, head, 38, married (10 years), coal miner hewer, worker, Yorkshire Rawmarsh

b) Rose Ardron, wife, 30, married (10 years), Yorkshire Rawmarsh

c) Alec Ardron dead, son, 9, Yorkshire Rawmarsh
d) Lilia Ardron, daughter, 8, school, Yorkshire Rawmarsh
e) John Ardron, son, 5, Yorkshire Wombwell
f) Rose Ardron dead, daughter, 2, Yorkshire Rawmarsh
g) Herbert Ardron, brother, 39, married, labourer steel works, worker, Yorkshire Rawmarsh

The record shows Rose having had a total of 4 children born alive in present marriage, 2 still living and 2 having died.
The property consisted of 4 rooms (including kitchen but excluding scullery, landing, lobby, closet, bathroom, warehouse, office or shop if present).

(PRO ref RG14 ??) -  IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THEY APPEAR AS ARDSON on the 1911 census website index
NOTE – John had difficulty in filling out the form as he has also included the details of his two deceased children (which were then crossed out). It is likely that the return was filled out prior to the actual Census night as his brother Herbert is shown, but the 1911 Census also shows him as resident with his own family at 6 Old Sheffield Road, Rotherham. Therefore he was counted twice!
