My 1st cousin 4 times removed was born at Swinton in 1877. (Based on age + location on 1881 Census) This agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 678 Dec 1877)

He was baptised at Kilnhurst on 30 December 1877. (APR)

On the 1881 Census (3 April) he was aged 3, living with his parents at 24 Piccadily Road, Kilnhurst. (PRO ref RG11 piece 4683 folio 124 page 27)

In about 1890 Samuel started work at the age of 13 at the Old Stubbin Colliery. (Newspaper Article - ?? Express, 28 Feb 1953 - see below)

On the 1891 Census (5 April) he was aged 13, a carter, living with his parents at Blackamoor Cottages, Rawmarsh (Upper Haugh). (PRO ref RG12 piece 3852 folio 121 page 16)

On the 1901 Census (31 March) he was aged 23, a coal miner trammer, living with his parents at 36 Rockingham Road, Swinton. (PRO ref RG13 piece 4400 folio 178 page 15)

Samuel married Elmere Beckett on 31 March 1902 at the Parish Church of Thorpe Hesley . He was aged 24, a bachelor and a miner of Swinton. His father was Samuel Ardron, also a miner. Elmere was aged 23 and a spinster of Thorpe. Her father was Henry Beckett, a miner. Witnesses were Wallace Beckett and Blanche Beckett. (GRO cert MXA978253 + GRO ref Rotherham 9c 985 Mar 1902)

 

On the 1911 Census (2 April) Samuel was listed as head of household for 27 Church Street, Swinton:

a) Samuel Ardron, head, 33, married (9 years), coal miner hewer, worker, Swinton Yorkshire

b) Elmere Ardron, wife, 32, married (9 years), Rotherham Yorkshire

c) Frank Ardron, son, 8, Swinton Yorkshire

d) Mabel Ardron, daughter, 4, Swinton Yorkshire

The record shows Sarah Jane having had a total of 2 children born alive in present marriage, 2 still living and 0 having died.

The property consisted of 6 rooms (including kitchen but excluding scullery, landing, lobby, closet, bathroom, warehouse, office or shop if present).

His will was probated on 19 June 1958: "Ardron, Samuel of 83 Church Street, Swinton, Mexborough, Yorkshire, died 5 May 1958 at Moorgate General Hospital, Rotherham, Yorkshire. Elmere BECKETT (1879 - 1964)
She was born in 1879. (Based on her age at marriage + death)

Elmear died on 12 February 1964. She was of 83 Church Street, Swinton. (Wills & Admons - see below) This agrees with a GRO death index entry. (GRO ref Rother V. 2c 767 Mar 1964 - [aged] 85)

 

Her will was probated on 18 March 1964: "Ardron, Elmear of 83 Church Street Swinton Mexborough Yorkshire widow died 12 February 1964. Probate Wakefield 18 March to Rennie Ardron colliery mechanic. Effects £780." (Wills & Admons 1964, Family Division of the High Court)

3) Rennie Ardron (1912 - 1985)

My 2nd cousin 3 times removed was born on 30 January 1912. (APR) This agrees with a GRO index entry. (GRO ref Rotherham 9c 1738 Mar 1912 - Beckett)

 

Rennie was then baptised on 25 February 1912 in Swinton. His father was a miner of 27 Church Street. (APR)

 

He died on 11 July 1985 and was of 12 Newhill Road, Wath on Dearne, Rotherham. (Wills & Admons - see below + GRO ref Doncaster 1985 July vol no 3 pg no 552 reg no 785 - [born] 30-Jan-1912))

Willis was then baptised on 2 May 1915 in Swinton. His father was a miner of 27 Church Street. (APR)

 

However he died shortly afterwards (GRO ref Doncaster 9c 926 Sep 1915 - [aged] 0) and then was buried in Swinton on 12 September 1915 aged 5 months. He was of 27 Church Street. (APR)
