A.H. Tipton Was An Early Settler

 

This article appeared in the May 7, 1954 edition of The Gatesville Messenger and Star-Forum. Martha A.3 Kinsey, [Peter2, Thomas1] was the wife of Benjamin W. Tipton. William Kinsey was William Fernando3 Kinsey [Peter2, Thomas1] who married Elizabeth Catherine Tipton. The family shown in the photo is William and Elizabeth Kinsey along with three of their sons. The sons and the older woman in the photo need identification.

 


A.H. Tipton was one of the early settlers of this area, coming here in 1855. He built a home seven miles southwest of Gatesville, and the house is shown in the above [below] picture. The farm-to-market highway from Gatesville to Copperas Cove passes through the original Tipton farm.

 

A.H. Tipton’s wife was the former Tabith Cash. Some of the names of their children are:  Ben W. Tipton, who married Martha Kinsey. All of their children are dead except Emma Sparks and Henry Tipton. They both live in Gatesville.

 

A daughter, Elizabeth Tipton, married William Kinsey. Their children now living are Gilford, Willie, Mary and Caldonia.

 

Another daughter, Emmaline Tabitha Tipton, married W.W. King. The names of their children are:  Nancy T. King, who married Newt M. Beaty; D. Hawkins King,

who married Mary Ada Leslie; Susie Ann King, who married Gus C. Buth; Rosie W. King, who married John C. Courtney; Clarence J. King, who married Eunice Miller; Byrd E. King, who married Eva Lipsey; Callie J. King and Jim Lee King.
