Mr. Henry J. Aten,   Hiawatha Kansas.

Dear Brother and Kinsman,

Your kind letter of the 6 inst. was duly received and read with pleasure.  Also the other inclosure was read with great pleasure and I thank you for the information you so kindly gave about your family history.

I have already shown the letter and family history to two or three of the friends, and will show the same to all the others that I see from time to time,

I have not seen Mrs. Hay since

I received your letter, but will take it to her house in a few days and let her read it.  I am going to make copies and send them to Mrs. Caroline A Prentiss and her sisters. She has written that she intends coming out here this summer and when she comes we will look into the matter and if there is any more information that we can give you, we will gladly do so. When I go up to Newton in Sussex County I will see what further history I can find, also when I am down to Easton the County seat of Northampton County Penna., and to Morristown, County seat of Morris County N.J. I will see what if anything can be found that

will be of benefit to you.  Along with this I send you my picture in return for the pictures you so kindly sent to me. It is from a negative taken in Nov. 1894. I sent and had a few copies made from it.

As I said, after I see several of the friends we will see what more history and information we can get for you, and then will send it to you.

You spoke about “Auten’s” at Princeville Illinois. Out here we knew that there were and still are Aten’s there but we do not

at present know about the “Auten’s” unless they are the same relatives, but spell their names that way.  I send you herewith a short history of the “Aten’s” out there.  This is sent to you at the request of Mr. Henry Aten of Hope who has read your letters sent to me.

We would all be pleased to have you stop off and see some of us whenever you can. We all send love and kind regards to you and Mrs. A. and the daughters.  I will be pleased to hear from you again.

In conclusion I am very fraternally and sincerely, your humble servant.
