Cousin
Henry J.:
Your
grand letter of the 24th inst is duly rec’d and read with pleasure.
They
have not as yet set the date for the A.&A. reunion. They are so slow about
the matter. I will go up to Delaware
tomorrow Thursday, and will set the day and let you know. It seems that I must
be as we were told by the ferryman (the pusher) in this matter. When I write to you I will return the
history manuscript sent to me.
I am
not feeling the very best these days—I drove over to Washington 8 miles from
here on Saturday evening the 15th inst to install the officers and
it rained when we came home and I caught a cold. I am all through with installing the officers of the 8 lodges in
my district. All the others at my home
are usually well at this time. A
gentleman here wishes me to go to Harrisburg Penna., for him. I think I will go
the 8th or 9th of Aug.
If you wish anything looked up there let me know and if I am able to
find what you wish I will gladly do so. We are having fine weather now out
here, only it is very warm. Our
country
looks grand now. All vegetation is so
rank after the late rains we have had.
Mrs.
Hay and her family are also usually well. The annual Odd Fellows’ Picnic is to
be held at Oxford Furnace 8 miles over from here on Aug. 17th. I
send you a circular in reference to the picnic.
Cousin Henry J you do
seem
to be not only a hunter of history pertaining to family matters—but a genuine
finder. Your letter of the 24th
is very interesting. I hope you are all
well at your home. I thank you for
sending the historical facts to me.
There is a paper published in New York City at 18 & 20 Rose
Street—called the “Spirit of ’76,” which contains a lot of colonial
history. If you have seen this paper
you know what it is—If not, if you will send .10¢ to The Publishing Office of
Spirit of ’76, 18 & 20 Rose Street New York they will send you a copy—I
send love and kind regards to you all. Excuse this hastily written letter.
Yours
very fraternally Nicholas Harris
