New
Opera House, etc. Belvidere N.J. June 13th 1905
Dear
Cousin Henry J.:
Your kind letter of the 8th inst., duly
received and read with pleasure. I send
to you another picture of the Delaware Valley.
Also a picture of Belvidere. I also send a large picture of the Delaware
Valley with some marks on it showing where the Derrick Aten farm & ferry
are. Also where the old Aten burying
ground is located—also where the Nicholas Albertson plantation homestead is
located and the location of the Hendrick Aten farm is on the map.—
(Pahaquarry
Copper Company)
The
two small crosses show where the old Aten burying ground, as it is called, is
located.
About
where the 3 x x x’s are was the old Derick Aten Ferry, and thence up along the
river and back up against and to the top of the hill was the Derrick Aten
homestead.
Across
the river and just about where I put the 4 crosses but around behind the hill
is the old Nicholas Albertson Plantation as it is spoken of in some of the old
deeds and writings—and where the Block house was said to be in the days of the
Revolution. You will no doubt remember
that I called your attention to the myrtle patch now growing in the remains of
the old pioneer log-house.
The
x-x-x-etc show the location of lands of
Hendrick Aten. The old homestead I pointed out (to) you up against the hillside
a short distance westerly outside of the picture—I have the papers to show that
the island in the foreground with other land laying where x-x-x etc in the division of his property went to his
daughter Eleanor (Aten) Albertson.
We
are all well at the present time and I hope that you are all well at your
home. We are having a fair summer so
far—crops are quite good so far.
It
will be a nice thing to read those old wills, as you speak of having
printed. Adrian Aten’s will will be a
matter of interest, and the will of Jacobjie (Middaugh) Aten will also be
interesting, and those back of those.
There is nothing new in the line of the Aten kinsfolk to inform you of. With kind regards to you all I am very respectfully yours~~~~ Nicholas Harris
