Dear Cousin Henry J.:--

Your kind letter of Aug. 22nd ult. was duly received and read with pleasure as I was glad to hear from you.

We are all well at my home at this time. You are certainly a hunter of family history , as your letter seems to show, from the research you are making way over in Holland.  I hope you will succeed in getting something of value to repay you for your trouble.  I must tell you that Mrs. Josephine Aten Hay whom you met when here, has passed away.  She died on Aug. 2nd  1910, at Lyons Farms in Union County, N.J. (See inclosed slips)  She was a grand daughter of Peter Aten a son of Dirck Aten your ancestor who laid

out the burying ground and established or owned the Ferry.  Of course as I said you met Mrs. Hay out here and you will remember her quite well.  I believe she was your nearest relative on the Aten side out here.  Mrs. Hay was a good woman. I was at her funeral and burial.  You might write Mrs. Carrie A. Prentiss of the death of Mrs. Hay, as I do not know her present address.  She—Mrs. Prentiss, will remember Mrs. Hay very well.  I do not know of any other death among your kinsfolk since I last wrote you.  We are having fine weather out here and have so far had a very fine fall.  Crops are right good out here, fruits and vegetables and melons plentiful and reasonable. Times are right good.  Some say New Jersey may go Democratic this fall but I really can’t say yet. Many are clamoring for a change. Hope you are all well at your home. We all send kind regards to you all—yours very respectfully                  Nicholas Harris----
