***********THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT*****************
Now I know why my 2nd great grandmother Mary Ellen Franks Gardner had the above photo taken in Brainerd, Minnesota. She was probably living up there with them in the late 1890's after she left Kansas City, Missouri.
Ida Mae Gardner and William Thomas Deane had 5 known children: John L Deane; Frank Willard Deane; Hazel May Deane; Ralph A Deane; and Rex Edward Deane b Nov 5 1909 died 15 April 1961 North Hollywood, California buried Oakwood Memorial Cemetery, Chatsworth, Los Angeles Co. California. I think Rex probably had a son who submitted some of this information on the LDS ancestral file:
Microfilm: 1394130 Submission: AF83-027361
Submitter(s):
RONALD LEON DEANE,
1795 ELSENA,
EUGENE OR USA 97401
Ronald also knew the maiden name of William Gardner's wife as Mary Elizabeth Franks. And he's the one that put the birth dates for William and Mary on LDS
8) Edwin A. b abt 1869 Illinois
9) Minnie Bell Gardner b 10 Jan 1871 Kansas died 29 Jul 1951 Los Angeles Co. California. Minnie married George G. Hastings b 7 June 1872 Michigan died 1 Oct 1962 Los Angeles Co. California
I have been trying to find these children and to date have only found
Washington Frank; Ida Mae; and of course my great grandfather and Minnie.
I haven't been able to establish death dates for William and Mary yet,
but I do know that Mary was living in Kansas City, Jackson Co. Missouri in
1889 and listed in the City Directory as a widow of William. She was living
just a few households from my Powell family and probably the reason that
Charles met my great grandmother Luella Powell prior to their marriage in
1889 in Kansas City. It is suspected that she MAY have died in California
based on divorce court records of Charles & Luella in 1916, there was
mention that he went to visit his mother in California.
Below is a link to my database at rootsweb on what I have now been able
to document on my Gardner family. If anyone has information as to the parents
of Washington Gardner and Mary Moore, please contact me.

These are my great grandparents, Charles William Gardner and Luella Powell.
Very little is known about my great grandfather, Charles William Gardner, born 7 October 1862 in Illinois died 29 April 1940 Iola, Allen Co. Kansas buried Iola Cemetery, just west of Iola in an unmarked grave.
He was quite an elusive man, never staying in one place for very long until he was much older. Luella Powell was born 2 Dec 1867 Columbia, Boone Co. Missouri and died 28 Oct 1954 Kansas City, Wyandotte Co. Kansas. She is buried in the Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. She is the daughter of William H. Powell and Tillitha Ann Turner, who were from Audrain Co. Missouri and died in Meade Co. South Dakota. William and Luella were married in Kansas City, Jackson Co. MO 12 Nov 1889.
According to information I have obtained from a cousin, shortly after their marriage they headed west to Deadwood, Lawrence Co. South Dakota. I have now been able to determine that he may have gone with his brother Washington and his sister Ida Mae, as they were both living in Meade Co. South Dakota and Luella's family also had gone there in abt 1893.
The 1900 AND 1910 Census states his parents were born in Ohio and they're first two children were born in South Dakota. They must have spent about 4 or 5 years there, by March 1895 they had moved to Iola, Allen Co. Kansas. They resided for a number of years thereafter. It is not known why they ended up in Kansas.
After they moved to Iola, Kansas, great grandpa would take off and ramble
around through Kansas, Nebraska, and evidently California. He would come
home from time to time, have marital difficulties, and be off again.
They farmed on Butler's farm around Iola and then in 1910 resided at 428 S. 3rd. In 1912 were living on North 4th Street in Iola. Great grandma Luella virtually raised their 4 living children alone. She would take in laundry and boarders to support her family.
On the 18th October 1915 great grandpa filed a divorce petition in Iola,
Allen Co., Kansas against grandma Luella. She had left town for a few days to visit her sister in Kansas City, Missouri and some other relatives. My grandmother, Flossie notified her that it had appeared in the local newspaper while she was away. Luella immediately returned to Iola to answer the complaint. Their divorce was final 30 March 1916.
Sometime in the 1920's or 1930's Charles "Bill" married HAZEL E. MARVIN and lived in Olathe, Kansas. My cousin can remember making visits there as a child. Grandpa "Bill" would play the fiddle for the grandchildren on their visits.
By 1936, he and Hazel were residing at 332 S. Ohio Street, Iola, Kansas.
He was living at 402 N. 4th Street, Iola at the time of his death.

When my father was put up for adoption in 1919, great grandma Luella was residing in Iola. Sometime between 1919 and 1923 she moved to 3123 N. 23rd Street, Kansas City, Kansas in a house owned by her son, Chester Clarence. At the time of her death in 1954, she was residing at 738 Broadview, Kansas City, Kansas.
