Cecil Chapel Cemetery - Index

Vandervoort, Polk, Arkansas

The land for this cemetery was donated by James Cecil [1825-1917] and Thomas Cecil [1870-1954]. Thomas being the son of James Cecil.

The Cecil Chapel began holding meetings in 1892 and is a active church as of 2007. A grandson of James Cecil related the following story.... A church meeting was being held on the property where the cemetery is now. One woman was resting under a arbor after a grand meeting and declared that this was the spot where she wanted to be buried - and the Cecil Chapel Cemetery was formed.

Note: There is another Cecil Cemetery not far from this site and was started by the brother of James Cecil, one Francis Marion Cecil.

There is substantial information on the Cecil, Dugan, Webb, Rickey, Joplin and other relatives of the Cecil family at the website www.ececil2.net. I have pictures, obits and some written histories of these families.

I require a password to access the site - just log on and follow the directions - I'll get back to you as soon as I can - if I don't respond right away - I'm traveling.

The cemetery was surveyed and photographed Oct 2007. There are numerous markers with no names and many markers are unreadable.

This is not a complete index.

Index was compiled from headstone pictures only.

I do beleive every headstone was photographed.

Most of the markers with no names are not on this site. If you can put a name to the

markers please contact me.
