William Henry Clark was listed as three years old on the 1860 census in Richland Twp., Venango County, PA and as thirteen years old on the 1870 census in Ashland Twp., Clarion County, PA with his widowed father William and six of his siblings.   I  assume that William Henry began working in the oil fields in Titusville in neighboring Crawford County before being married in Warren, Warren County, Pennsylvania at St. Joseph's Catholic church on 12 May 1886.  He had been baptized and raised in the Presbyterian faith, having attended church in Nickleville where his parents and grandfather James Clark are buried.

The oil field job kept the family on the move.  Although there is no record of where son Leo was born on 22 February 1887, the first two daughters, Rosa and Cecilia, were born in Lima, Allen County, Ohio in 1889 and 1891 respectively.  The rest were born in various locations in Pulaski County, Indiana, where Leo died and is buried.  By 1906 they were in Gas City, Grant County, Indiana, for that is where and when Roland started first grade.  Soon after that the family resided in Kane, McKean County, PA before finally settling in Hornell, Steuben County, New York.  No longer following the oil fields, William Henry got a job as a turntable operator on the Erie Railroad where he worked for seven years until his death from kidney failure in 1920.
