Notes for
MARGARET: One researcher states Malcolms' wife Margaret (was possibly Henderson). Margaret’s 1826 will leaves property to daughters Betsy, Mary Ann, sons John and James (no other children mentioned). John Allen and William Henderson were witnesses. (Conflict: researcher Ray Isbell gives the following as their children: John, Joseph, Archibald, William, Mary Ann, Newton, Elizabeth, Cary and James). Lynne
Hundley who did much of this Allen research states the following:
There never was a Malcolm, Jr.
Hugh's son Malcolm was referred to as Malcolm, Jr. to distinguish him from
his grandfather for legal reasons only. His grandfather signed his name on
occasion "Malcom Allen, Sr."
[note that at that time the designations "Senior" and "Junior" did
not necessarily refer to father/son, but could also mean two men in the
same community with the same name: Senior referring to the older of the
two, and Junior to the younger.]
