Obituary

Shelbina Republican   25 August 1926

MARSH BAKER

Marsh Baker, well known former resident of this vicinity, died at the home of his son, Frank, at Whitehall, Monatana, Monday.

Mr. Baker spent practically all of his life in Shelby county, moving to Montana about 4 years ago, after the death of his wife. He was for most of his life a farmer northeast of here. About 10 years ago he bought property here and moved to Shelbina.

Five sons and a daughter survive as follows: Reason of Billings, Frank, of Whitehall, Chas. D. of this county, Edward of Mexico, Mo., Dr. Sylvanus of Denver and Mrs. Annie Beckley of Sheridan, Wyo.

The remains are expected to arrive in Shelbina Thusday night and the funer will be at the Catholic church Friday at 10:00 a. m., conducted by Rev. R. Grace.

MRS. MARSH BAKER DEAD

Mrs. Marsh Baker, 67 years of age, died at her home in Shelbina at 6:00 o'clock p.m., last Friday. Death was sudden, due to apolplexy. She had been in her usual good health that day and had just returned from a visit with neighbors when stricken, illness lasting about two hours.

Mrs. Baker's maiden name was Elizabeth Dempsey, daughter of Chas. and Sarah Dempsey. She was born January 2, 1855, in Akams county, Ill., coming to Missouri while quite young, settling with her parents near Oak Dale, this county. On November 27, 1873, she was married to Marsh Baker. To this union nine children were born, six of whom with her husband, survive. The children living are; R.J. Baker, Billings, Montana; Frank P. Baker, Logan, D.Syl. Baker; San Fernando, Calif; Chas. D. Baker, near Oak Dale, Edward Baker, north of Shelbina,; Mrs. J. L. Beckley, Sheridan, Wyo. She also raised one grandson, Marshall Baker. In addition to the above, she is survived by a brother and sister, Judge Mark Dempsey, near Shelbina and Mrs. T. J. Finney at Fairfield, Iowa.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Catholic church, and all her life had been a useful one. She leaves many friends in addition to relatives, who morn her loss. For the past twelve years she had lived with her husband in Shelbina, prior to that ___ their marriage living in the Oak Daile neighborhood. . . . .

Reason J. Baker appears in the 1930 census for Billings, Yellowstone County, Montana. He was working as a Brakeman on the Steam Rail Road. Fifty-four years of age and not married, he was boarding at the home of William and Louise Moes at 2611 North 3rd Avenue in Billings.
