6. JOSEPH GEE (JOSEPH3, JOHN2, UNKNOWN1) was
born Bet. 1705 - 1706 in Eastchester, Westchester, New York, and died 1760
in Dutchess, New York. He married REBECCA HUNT11 1740, daughter of
MOSES HUNT and MARY CLOSE. Notes for JOSEPH
GEE: Joseph was eleven years old when his father died. On 3
December 1719 the Court of Sessions, Westchester Co., approved Isaac
Lawrence, Jr., as his guardian. Joseph Gee and Edward Pedrick sold
seven acres to Isaac Taylor on 30 January. In the 1744 will of Jacob
Bruyn of Westchester Co., (Liber 15, p. 405) land in Rochester, Ulster
Co., was left to his daughters. The land was "conveyed to me by
Joseph Gee and Anthony Hall." He married Rebecca Hunt,
daughter of Moses Hunt, and Mary Close, in Eastchester about 1740.
Rebecca Gee is mentioned in the will of her father, Moses Hunt, 30 January
1760 (Abstract of Wills, NY. State Vol. VI Liber 24, p. 413. The
marriage is mentioned in A. W. Savary's Lt. Col. Benjamin Hunt the
Loyalist, and in G. C. Mackenzie's manuscript The Hunt Family in the
manuscript collection at the New York Public Library. No
records mentioning him have been found after he was called "Joseph Gee, of
Dutchess Co. " and husband of Rebecca Hunt in her father's will in
1760. It is presumed he died in Dutchess Co., after 1760 but no
records in that county have been found. Children of JOSEPH

was described as 19 yrs. old., b. in Westchester co., and having brown
hair and eyes, a fair complexion, height 5'1', occupation laborer.

8. PVT. JOSEPH GEE
(WILLIAM4, JOSEPH3, JOHN2, UNKNOWN1) was born Bet. 1731 - 1732 in
Eastchester, Westchester, New York, and died Aft. 1810 in Schuyler,
Herkimer Co., New York. Notes for PVT. JOSEPH
GEE: About 1740 he moved to the southern precinct of Dutchess
County, New York, near Fredericksburgh, with his father (William) and his
uncle John. Joseph was living in Dutchess County in 1754 and in
1767. He moved to the Plattekill Valley in Ulster County, New York, in
about 1767/68 and was living next to his father in 1771 in the town of
Paltz, Ulster County, New York. Joseph was a private in the
Revolutionary War. In the book "New York In The Revolution As Colony
and State" by James A. Roberts, there is only one Joseph Gee listed (among
a total of 20 men with the surname Gee!) who served in the State of New
York, and he was a member of the 1st Regiment of the Ulster County
Militia. As of 1790 Joseph was living in Middletown, Ulster County.
From there he moved to Colchester, Delaware County, New York in
1796. After 1800 he moved further west and finally by 1810 he was in
Schuyler, Herkimer County, New York, where he died. Source: New
York in the Rev., pg. 188. Joseph Gee served under Glover
but I have yet to find the dates of his service. Brig. Gen. John

JOSHUA GEE: Joshua was a resident of Colchester in 1800. He served in
the Delaware County Militia from 1802 until 1817. In 1830 he moved
to Ellsworth, Trumbull county, Ohio and resided there until his death
sometime before 1850.

named for his uncle Derosel Gee. In 1810 he was residing next to his
father, Joseph, in Schuyler, Herkimer County, New York, with a wife and
six sons, all under sixteen years of age.

UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. 1735 in Eastchester, New York, and died Bet.
1810 - 1813 in New Cornwall, Orange, New
York. Notes for PVT. CORNELIUS GEE: Cornelius owned the
point of land known as "Gee's Point" and is now the northern part of West
Point Army Academy. He ran a ferry across the Hudson River as late
as 1897. Official Maps of West Point at the West Point museum &
Library show the point as Gee's Point. Bet. 1790 - 1800, was

JOHN2, UNKNOWN1) was born 1737, and died 1803 in Virgil, Cortland, New
York. He married (1) HANNAH 1759 in Duchess Co., NY. She died
November 08, 1789. He married (2) MARY 1771. She died March
1802 in Virgil, Cortland, New York. Notes for DEROSEL
GEE: Derosel Gee, also known as Roswell Gee, was born between
1730 and 1739. He was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars,
1754-1763. He married Hannah and they had five children. Hannah left
Derosel about 1771-3 and married Edward Lascelles. Derosel then
married Mary. "He was a man of iron frame and
active mind and could repeat tails of tented field, of blood and carnage,
that would never fail to send the blood curdling to the heart". Source:

191. A different version has Derosel leaving Hannah marrying
in the spring of the same year, Mary. Hannah remarried in Jan., 1773,
Edward Lascelles in Rockland Co., NY. Derosel is found on
tax tables, So. Precinct, Dutchess, Co., NY, Feb. 1762, June
1763. In 1790 He was living in New Cornwall, Orange Co., near
brother Cornelius. Moved to Wyoming, Wilkes Barre, PA. with son John
and his family after the 1790 census. Moved to Virgil, Cortland Co.,
in 1796. Virgil, Cortland Co, NY in 1800 census as Rozel
Gee. He fought in French Indian Wars. Also known as:
Rosell, Rozel, Roswell. Burial: Gee's Hill, Virgil, Cortland, New

TURNER 1761 in Dutchess, New York. She was born Abt. 1740 in
Cortlandt Manor, Westchester, New York, and died Aft. 1800 in Ulster, New
York. Notes for 1ST MAJOR WILLIAM GEE: There is some
controversy whether this WILLIAM GEE was the 1st Major or the Private
WILLIAM GEE that is found among records. 7 April 1772: At town meeting
he was chosen Path Master. Rev. war soldier in Col. Luddington's 7th
Regiment as First Major in May 1778 from Frederichburgh Precinct. On
tax list for S. Dutchess Co., NY from 1762 to 1779. Lived in Ulster Co.,
after 1784. 1 April 1788 Path Master and lott of road numbered #19 to
William Gee. Inventory at death included his Rev. War Rifle
with bayonet and a prosperous farm and large personal estate.
William was a witness to the will of Martha's father,(John Turner) at
Cortlandt Manor, Westchester Co., on 27 Nov. 1772 Children of

She was born Abt. 1761, and died 1857 in Virgil, Cortland, New
York. Notes for ENSIGN WILLIAM GEE: William was an Ensign
in Lt. Col. Siah Robinson's Regiment, Ulster Co., Militia in 1802.
In 1807 he was Lt. in First Brigade. According to the Census was
residing at Shawangunk, Ulster Co., NY in 1790 and at Plattskill, Ulster
Co, NY, in 1800 & 1810, then removed to Virgil, Cortland Co., in
1812.

Revolutionary soldier serving as a private in the New York Line, enlisting
in Orange Co., in April 1777. He served in Rosencrantz's Co., Col
Lewis Dubois' Reg. And was at Fort Montgomery, Orange Co., when the fort
was taken by the British at the time "Aunt Sally" drank her tea.
