~ Bakker ~
Holland ~ Iowa ~ South Dakota ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome…to
my Bakker Family Genealogy Home Page.
The focus of this site is the ancestors of my maternal grandfather,
Arend Baker. The primary surnames
that I am researching, on my grandfather’s side of the family, are Bakker, Jansen, Jans, Fokkens, Franssen, Gelling and
Zwart. My Dutch ancestors
came from Beerta, Finsterwolde, Ganzedijk, Oudedijk, Nieuweschans and the
surrounding areas in the Province of Groningen, Holland (The
Netherlands). My great grandparents,
Harm and Aaltje Bakker, and seven of their ten children, including my
grandfather, immigrated to America from Holland. Two of their children remained in Holland, and from information
on census records, it is believed that another child died in Holland before
the family emigrated. This is their
story. I hope that you will find it
interesting and informative. ~ Without documentation, Genealogy is Mythology ~ Author Unknown I have tried
to verify all individuals and information in my Bakker research with
documentation, but as this is an ongoing endeavor I cannot promise or
guarantee that all facts are 100% correct.
I can only say that I have done my best to be as accurate as
possible. I have not included names
of individuals who are only ‘possibly’ connected to my ancestors, but have
chosen instead to keep this site as factual as possible. If you think we may have a family
connection, please email me, I would love to hear from you. Email
Barbara: [email protected] From this
home page you will find links to pages with information and photos of the
members of my Bakker/Baker ancestral tree.
There are also links to the email addresses of my Bakker cousins and a list
of the other family names they are researching in addition to the Bakker
line. There is a link to my personal
home page and a link to my cousin Lisa Rex's web site. Lisa’s site has extensive information on
the ancestors of my maternal grandmother, Nellie Torrence Baker. Please visit my tribute page to Nellie. I have recently acquired a treasure of old
photos, newspaper clippings, letters, personal notes and memorabilia that
belonged to my grandmother, some dating back to the mid 1800’s. As I sort through it all, and document the
things that are there, I will be updating this site with additional
information and more photos. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
