BOSTON GENERATION 1

-WILLIAM BALLANTYNE
He was born about 1616 in (probably) Glasgow, Scotland. I have not been able to determine exactly how and when he arrived in America. However, he married HANNAH HOLLARD July 23, 1652. She was born in July 1638, daughter of ANGEL HOLLARD and KATHERYN [UNKNOWN]. I have uncovered a lot of information on this line. Although I have no definitive proof, I am convinced that William did not come to America as one of the Scottish Rebels of the period. If he had, he could not have achieved the social standing that he apparently enjoyed when he married Hannah in 1653, the daughter of a well-to-do shoemaker of Boston. He was a cooper by trade and settled in Boston, Massachusetts. He was one of the charter members of the Scots Charitable Society founded in Boston January 6, 1657 for the relief of the Scots who were completing their indentures. He died in November 1670 in Boston and Hannah died there April 3, 1718. They had issue below.
