Jemima (Armstrong) Porter was born on the 26th of February 1874 in Omaha, Gallatin County IL. She was the 4th child of William & Elizabeth Hannah (Shook) Armstrong. Her father (William Armstrong) died when she was about 7 years of age. When Jemima she was about 13 years of age her mother (Elizabeth Hannah (Shook) Armstrong), remarried to Andrew Austin in White County IL. By 1900 the family relocated to Cape Girardeau MO.

Its not exactly known just when or where Jemima married Finis Porter. My best guess is that they married in White County but no record of the marriage is found there and none has been found in Cape Girardeau MO either. The date of her marriage to George Edward Montel is not know either. They were married until death parted them in 1959, when Ed died. Finis & Jemima Porter were the parents of four daughters;

1. Carrie A. Porter married Clarence McNeely

2. Minnie Porter married William Henry Houck

3. Lona Porter married Harvey Ross Sheets

4. Gertrude Porter married Chris Himmelsbach.
