Lloyd Armstrong was my grandfather but I never met him. This is probably the single most reason that Genealogy became my hobby. I never knew any of my grandparents, nor did I know my father Ezra, and that left a void in my heart that has never been filled. Lloyd was born in Omaha, Gallatin County IL in 1881. He was the youngest child of William and Elizabeth Hannah (Shook) Armstrong. He was never to know his own father as he died before Lloyd was born. After several years Lloyds mother Elizabeth remarried to a man by the the name of Andrew Austin who I believe was know as "Drew". Andrew moved the family to Cape Girardeau MO in the year of 1890. Lloyd remembers he was only about 9 years old at the time. So Lloyd grew up in and around the beautiful, soft hills of Cape Girardeau, MO. He was known as a generous man, a farmer by nature and was always there to help and care for anyone who needed his help. Lloyd Armstrong was born Mar. 20, 1881 Omaha, Gallatin Co IL. His death occurred Nov. 12, 1972 in Cape Girardeau MO and he is buried at Morgan Memorial Cemetery in Advance MO.

His first marriage was to Mary Catherine Warner on the 7th of November 1906. Mayme, as she was known, was a delicate woman who died at the very young age of 32 years. She was born 24 December 1888 in Pensacola FL and died 17 April 1920 in Perkins MO. She was the mother of Five (possible 7) children but only one of them survived. We know that five of her children died very young, Ezra Earl Armstrong, my father, was the only surviving child of this first marriage. Mayme and her deceased children are all buried at Kenyon Cemetery, Cape Girardeau MO. I visited that cemetery many years ago but could find no headstone for any of them.

Lloyd married the second time to Leona Lillian Marcus in December 1920 a few months after the death of Mayme. Leona gave him 5 healthy children. This marriage ended in the untimely deaths of Leona and their youngest child Geraldine in a terrible car accident in 1957.

Interesting story -
Marie used to date Herbert Van Matre Sr who was a cousin of mine. Herberts mother was overly possessive of her son and didn't want him dating anyone! So she did everything possible to keep him from getting serious about any women so nothing came of the Marie / Herbert romance. Had they married my Aunt Marie would also have become my Cousin in Law.
