Mrs. Essie Mae Gove, 82, of 20 Lancelot, Dahlonega, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Gold City Community Living Center in Dahlonega following an extended illness.
A Stillwell, Oklahoma native and former resident of Brandon, Florida, Mrs. Gove had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 15 years. She was the daughter of the late William C. and Nora Holland Dolby. At the age of 2 years, Essie was orphaned and was raised by her aunt, Florence Holland Van Matre Gibbs in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mrs. Gove was a member of the Dahlonega Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Montgomery, and a son, Donald Ray Armstrong.
Survivors include husband Mr. Philip Gove, Dahlonega; daughter Christine Armstrong Walters, Rock Falls, Illinois; son Larry Armstrong, Anamosa, Iowa; stepdaughter Bonnie Lee Mae, Lakeland, Fla.; stepson John W. Gove, Lakeland, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
At her request, Mrs. Gove was cremated and a Memorial Service is scheduled for 3 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2001, from the Dahlonega Baptist Church. The Rev. William D. Hutcheson, and the Rev. Robert D. Green will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evening. The family requests that flowers be omitted and anyone that would like to make a contribution that they make it to the Dahlonega Baptist Church, Building Fund, 199 Choice Ave., Dahlonega, Georgia 30533.
