Mary Louise (Dolby) Stewart
On Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, surrounded by family, Mary Louise Stewart went to be with her Lord and Savior. Mary was born on Sept. 18, 1935, to Howard and Mary Dolby in Huntington, Ind. In 1955, she fell in love with and married her husband of 44 years, Jackie Stewart. In 1964, after much persuasion, Mary agreed to move with Jack and their four children to Alaska--with no idea of the life awaiting her. Four more children were added to the family on the homestead they owned in Delta Junction. Mary always showed her inner strength and integrity through their many adventures during their 40 years of Alaska living, which she experienced to the fullest extent. But never were her unending faith, honesty, kindness and sense of humor more manifested to all that knew and loved her than during this last year as she was faced with the devastating effects of ALS. Not once did she complain as she lost her ability to move and talk. She always greeted everyone with a big smile and never failed to say "thank you" even as her speech became more difficult to understand. She enjoyed the many small things that are so often taken for granted, and she was forever quick to laugh, with her beautiful twinkling eyes reflecting the love within. Mary will continue to be a true inspiration and hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Her legacy of unselfish giving, kindness and willingness to help others is one to be treasured. Her family said, "Our family will cherish the gifts of faith, hope, and love she gave us and will forever be thankful that God chose her to be our mother/grandmother. For those she left behind, it will forever be our desire that we may be able to obtain a fraction of the grace and goodness she manifested. We will miss her beyond measure, but rejoice that she is no longer shackled by her earthly body. We know her spirit will forever be strong and she is once again singing praises to her Lord with her beautiful voice." She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stewart; parents, Howard and Mary Dolby; sister, Lois Brown; and brothers, Eugene, Lowell, Robert and Loren Dolby. Mary is survived by her eight children; Cheryl Jacaman of Texas, Raymond and Elvin Stewart of Delta Junction, Glinda Garwood, Sonya Shook, Joyce Kenyan, David Stewart, Kimberly Kelsch, all of Fairbanks; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Earline Lowery and Twyla Brown, both of Indiana. Visitation will be Saturday, March 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairbanks Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. at First United Pentecostal Church, officiated by the Rev. Gordon Parish. Mary will be laid to rest near her family at Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County, Ind. Donations to the ALS foundation made in her memory would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements were by Fairbanks Funeral Home.
