Dolby Days Genealogy

Lancaster County PA

The Home of Isaac & Dorothea (Dietz) Dolby Sr., which was acquired by them in 1810, was the Original Homeplace of Christian and Juliana (Drop) Dietz, the parents of Dorothea. It is located in Caernarvon Twp, Lancaster Co PA. On the 1820 Census Dorothea and Isaac are shown with 9 children of which we can account for 8. On the 2nd day of May 1856, for the sum of $400.00, the land was sold to Samuel and Catherine (Dolby) Reifsnyder. Catherine was the daughter of Isaac and Dorothea. The deed stipulated that Isaac and Dorothea were to remain on the premises for the rest of their lives, with Catherine and Samuel taking care of them in their old age.

In 1860 Dorothea and Isaac were listed on the Census, living in the home of Samuel and Catherine. We are not at all sure when Isaac Sr. died, but we do know that Dorothea died 5 June 1866. She was laid to rest in the family plot at St Johns Center Church Cemetery. Isaac for the moment, has decided to keep his demise a secret. We can easily see that the house was very well constructed as people are living in it yet today. The view is from all angles and in this picture the original structure is in the "middle".

The Barns may or may not be original, the one to the left is the "oldest". The Reifsnyder children raised on this wonderful place were - Thomas H (1835), John (1835), Samuel (1836), Abraham (1838), Daniel (1840), William (1842), James K (1844), Susanna (1846) and Martin (1848). Samuel died in 1864 and Catherine passed on in 1889. Both are buried in St Johns Center Church Cemetery in the Family Plot along with Dorothea (Dietz) Dolby.
