Pension Division Veterans Administration
Washington, D.C.

Sirs,
My father, John Dolby, was a veteran of the Civil War. He enrolled as a Private, Company (B) 53rd Regiment Penna Volunteers, on the 29th day of Sept., 1861, was discharged from the service on the 21st day of Dec. 1863, by reason of reenlisting as a Veteran Volunteer, Dec. 22nd 1863. He was discharged June 30th 1865.

He was granted a small pension about 1895, which was increased to $40.00 per month June 10th 1918. He died Jan. 22nd 1919. His pension would have been due Feb. 10th, but since he died 19 days before that time we did not get the pension which was due him from Nov. 10th until the time of his death. His pension certificate was No. 613,902.

My mother died in 1899 and my eldest sister, Blanche Dolby, kept house and cared for my father until his death. She is now 67 yrs. Old, in very poor health and absolutely penniless. I am 64, was a dressmaker, but owing to a heart ailment I have not been able to work for four years, so I am unable to contribute anything towards her support. If my mother had survived my father she would have been eligible for a pension. Is my sister eligible for that pension?

Respectfully yours,
Mary L. Dolby
