Williams Family Reunion Held
The Williams
family is related on our Grandmother Hannah I.
(Melton) Hart�s side of the family.
The Williams Family Reunion was held on Sunday,
May 17, at Herald, Illinois. Of the twelve children
of Richard and Mae (Catlin) Williams three survives
and were present � Bob, Junior and Fleeta Guffey.
(Note: Mae (Catlin) Williams was a step sister to
our Grandmother Hannah I. (Melton) Hart.)
Bob and Junior fried catfish to go with the dishes
others brought. Junior led the prayer and every one
prayed the Lord�s Prayer before the delicious meal.
It was a beautiful day and attended by eighty

John Hannah took the picture & some of the other�s

Relatives and Friends of the late Martin A. and
Hannah I. (Melton) Hart met at the American Legion
Building in Dexter, MO. for their 32nd Annual
Reunion.
A short business meeting was held at the beginning
of the Reunion. Rev. Jerry Hart led the prayer which
included the Lord�s prayer before the delicious dinner.
After dinner, our brother Jerry Hart, did an impersonation
of Willie Nelson, singing �To All The Girls I
Have Loved Before�, accompanied by Tommy
Menley on the Piano. Then Bill and Pat Dickerson
and Jerry & Doris Hart sing �Heavens Juebleee�.
Lot�s of picture�s & visiting took place & John
Hannah of Benton, AR made a movie, which will be
on a DVD & sent to all families present. Also, we
had a group picture and several individual family
pictures made..
Then our cousin Richard Hart, held our �FUN
AUCTION�, in which the bidding went kind of wild
at times. Contribution�s will be made to the
Stoddard County Children�s Home & the Hagy
Cemetery located north of Dexter this year.

West, CO. This was the first time Nancy had been
back to Southeast Missouri in 51 years. Both, her
mother Mamie (Grissom) Hart & father the late
Milas Hart was born near Parma, MO. & went to the

Catlin Reunion Enjoyed, By Fletta Guffey
The 84th Catlin reunion was held Sunday June 28,
2009 at Herald, IL. The reunion was started the
summer of 1926 to honor the families of Chester
Catlin.
Chester and Nancy had six children, after she died
Chester married a widow with six children, and then
Chester and Laura had six children. Note: Laura
was Laura (Hendrix) Melton.
Most of these children lived and raised their own
families at Herald. Ten of the Catlin grandchildren
were present and about 70 other family members and
friends.
The welcome was given by president Orley Bryant.
Bob Williams led the group in the Pledge of
Allegiance and Rev. David Stewart offered praise to
God.

St. Jacob man inducted into drag racing HOF
Jim Lockeby�s love for speed the smell of the
burning nitro-methane fuel and the sounds of
screeching tires of drag racing began as a spectator.
More than 40 years later, his affection and addition
for drag strips has earned him a spot in the Gateway
International Raceway Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
�The fuel and the rubber burning got in my blood
and I have loved the sport ever since. I have it for
over 40 years now and still love it�, said Jim Lockeby,
76 �It gets in your blood and it doesn�t get out.
Jim Lockeby was inducted into the Gateway
International Raceway Drag Racing Hall of Fame for
his longtime service to the sport. He has worked in
the business behind the scenes on a variety of levels
for more than 30 years.
�(The induction) really surprised me,� he said. �I
had no idea until they called me that week and asked
me if I would come down there (to Gateway) and I
said sure. Congratulation�s Jim and we wish you the
best.

Bowling Green, KY
Kelly E. Livingston, 43 of Bowling, KY., died at
10:25 p.m. Thursday, Feb 26, 2009 at the Skyline
Medical Center, Madison Tennessee Campus.
The St. Louis, Missouri native was an employee of
Alcan Recycling Company in Glasgow and a
graduate of Warren East High School.
He was the son of Wendel Gene Livingston and
Opal Genesse Hart Livingston both of Bowling
Green, Kentucky. In addition to his parents he is
survived by one daughter, Kendal Livingson of Zion,
Illinois, one brother, Jeff Livingston and his wife,
Karla of Gracey, Kentucky; two nephews, Colton
Livingston and Matthew Livingston both of Gracey,
Kentucky.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am,
Tuesday Mar 3, 2009 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps
Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. � 8:00 p.m. on
Monday Mar. 3, 2009 and from 9:00 am � 11:00 am
on Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral
Home.
Note: Kelly was the grandson of the late
our Uncle Martin Hart & Aunt Captola Hart.

Dexter, MO,
Christine Schacherbauer, the daughter of the late
Thomas Marion and Vister Blanch DeTamasi Riddle
was born in Jackson, TN on May 23, 1931 and died
at the St. Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau,
MO on Jan 29, 2009 at the age of 77.
Mrs. Schacherbauer had lived in Dexter since 1961
and was a member of the Lighthouse Christian Center
in Dexter.
On May 7, 1955, she was married to Herman Lee
Schacherbauer in St. Louis, MO. He pre4ceded her
in death on Feb. 17, 2005.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol A. Gilbow and
Linda G. Vaughn, both of Dexter, one son, Phillip W.
Schacherbauer of Springfield, MO; four
grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one sister,
Tommie Mae Blackburn of Fairmont City, IL.
Interment will be in the Bluff Cemetery near Idalia
with Watkins & Sons Funeral Services of Dexter in
charge of arrangements.
Note: Christine�s daughter Carol A. Schacherbauer
is the wife of Kerry Gilbow, who is the son of our
cousin Vera (Hart) (Gilbow) Ross.
Coffeeville, Ks. - Dean Howard Powell,
was born in Coffeyville, September 9, 1929 to
George (Jack) Grant and Goldie Ora Burris Powell.
Following a battle with cancer Dean passed away
February 10th, 2009 at Windsor Place, Coffeyville, at
the age of 79 years.
He met Zelda Marguerette House at Cedar Bluff
Camp when he was 17 and she was 16. Dean�s father
died in the spring of 1948 which brought Dean and
Marguerette closer and they were married September
19, 1948 at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church.
Dean and Marguerette had three children and raised
two granddaughters, Angela and Kimberly Sjolander.
In addition to Coffeyville, they lived in Older Parker
District, Robbins Community and one year in
Albuquerque.
Dean is survived by his wife, and sons, Roger Dean
Powell (wife Sandy), Duane Howard Powell (wife
Brenda); grandchildren: Angela Sjolander Tickle
(husband Jim), Kimberly Sjolander, Melissa Powell
Malotte, David Powell (wife Shawna), Latisha
Powell Wood (husband Darrin), Brian Powell (wife
Cassie), Jennifer Powell and Elizabeth Powell; 13
great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and
one sister: Donna Powell Wulf (husband Dean) and
several nephews and nieces.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his
brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Merideth Powell,
his daughter Linda Sue Powell Sjolander and her
husband, Jerry and one nephew, Brian Powell.
Services will be held Friday, February 13, 2009 at
Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in
Coffeyville at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Richard Jenkins and
Rev. Stephen Heslip will officiate. Burial will follow
at Penwell-Gabel�s Restlawn Memorial Park
Cemetery. Note: Dean�s wife Margarette is related
to our Coats family in Texas County, MO. She & I
have corresponded for several year�s.

Doris J. �Dee� (DeVillez) Hart, 75,
of Evansville, IN, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at
Deaconess Hospital. She is survived by her sons, David
L. Hart and wife, Julie, and Eric J. Hart and his fianc�e,
Shannon, both of Evansville; brother, Donald E.

Versa was preceded in death by her father, Mansel,
and daughter, Lea Marie.
She is survived by her mother, Nancy Ednew of
Houston; daughter, Maris Gerndon of Columbia,
MO., and Nancy Moger of Carl Junction, MO, sonin-
law Royce Herndon and Bob Moger; several
grandchildren, her sister, Marilyn Ice, her husband

Mamie married Milas Hart on Nov. 20th, 1937 in

Sam Dudley Hart, Sr. (1928-2009)
HART, Sam Dudley, age 81, died Thursday, August
27, 2009, of complications attributed to blood
infection while in hospital at Dekalb Medical,
Decatur, GA. Sam was born January 16, 1928 in
Winchester, Tennessee to James Derrel and Nell
Givens Hart. He served in the United States Army
from April 1946 to retirement on November 1966.
His military service included tours in Italy, Germany,
Korea and Vietnam as well as postings at military
bases in the US. He is an alumnus of Columbus State
University (Class of �74). He lived in Georgia since
his military retirement in 1966 in Columbus,
Conyers, and Tucker and was involved in professions
in sales and manufacturing until retirement in 1999.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Kenneth Hart
preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister,
Mary Elizabeth (Dolly) Hill, (Ringold, GA). He is
also survived by 3 sons: Sam Hart, Jr., Peter Hart,
and David Hart (all reside in Georgia); 2 daughters,,
Alicia Ford (Texas) and Karen Hart (Georgia); and 3
grandchildren: Addamus Hart (Texas); Caitlin Hart
and David Franklin Hart, Jr. (Georgia); and 1 known
great-grandchild. Services for Sam will be conducted
Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the manner of
family/friends rendezvous at Watson-North Funeral
Home at 11am to be followed by procession and
graveside service at Mount Garner Cemetery,
Decherd, at 12:00 noon. The family request that
donations be given to The Friends of Old Mount
Hermon Cemetery Foundation in lieu of flowers.

the Rev. Bob Meyer officiating. Burial will be in
Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 24, 1944, in Equality to Albert E.
and Lodema (Payne) Brown, who survive in
Eldorado. On March 6, 2007, he married the former
Wilma Riggs, who survives. He was a member of the
Catholic Church, Equality American Legion and
VFW. He was a Vietnam veteran and a retired coal
miner for Peabody Eagle No. 2.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived
by a son, Jason (Terri) Brown of Carterville; a
stepson, Chris Cantrell of Springfield, Mo.; four
grandsons, Dylan and Dawson Brown of Mt. Carmel
and Caleb Hayes and Nicholas Brown of Carterville;
two sisters, Sue (Dearld) Justice of Decatur and
Brenda (Dan) Ramsey of Eldorado; a brother, Gary
(Kathy) Brown of Chatham; and many nieces and
nephews. Note: Ronald was the grandson of the late
Claude and Ethel (Catlin) Brown.
July 11, 2009, Knobel, AR. The Ashby/Hart Reunion
was held at the Community Center in Knobel, AR. on
July 11, 2009 and there was probably over 50 in
attendance. I visited with some of the decendants of
Margaret Lee Hart who married Milan (Pete) Ashby as
shown on pages #29 thru #40 of the James Hart Family
book and several other�s. A great family & the dinner
was great.

Floyd Taylor, 93, Carmi, passed away
at 8:43 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Deaconess
Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born Aug. 9, 1915 in Carmi, the son of
Robert Stewart and Martha Ellen (Aud) Taylor, and
was married March 26, 1937 to Esther Julia Seitz,
who preceded him in death Oct. 25, 2006. Mr. Taylor
was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist
Church in Carmi and a transport driver for MAPCO
transportation for 29 years.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John R.
and Claire Taylor of Severn, Md.; two grandchildren,
Cynthia M. Canner and John R. Taylor II; five greatgrandchildren,
Robert T., Christina M., Catherine M.,
Camilla M. and Claire M. Canner; two nieces, Judy
Peyton and Glenda Taylor; and two nephews, Ed Hall
and Doug Devore. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Esther; a brother, Glenard David Taylor; a
sister, Mary Ellen Hall; and two nieces, Martha Lou
Vincent and Alta.

Robert G. Phipps, 83, Evansville,
Ind., formerly of Carmi, passed away at 9:12 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at the Heritage Center in
Evansville, Ind.
He was born Sept. 11, 1926 in Brownsville, the son
of Roscoe Chase and Velma Eileen (Harrawood)
Phipps. He married Garnet Christine Dick June 18,
1949. Mr. Phipps was a World War II Marine Corps
veteran. He was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church in Evansville and was a retired
high school physics teacher.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Garnet Phipps
of Evansville; three daughters and two sons-in-law,
Linda K. and Jerry Settle of Boise, Idaho, Laura J.
and William Fisher, and Beth Anne Phipps, all of
Evansville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth
B. and Vicki Phipps of Waukesha, Wis. and Lee D.
and Laura Sue Phipps of Bellingham, Wash.; four
grandchildren, Matthew Phipps, Evan Phipps, Emily
Fisher and Rachel Phipps; and one greatgranddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one son, Scott Phipps,

12:09 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Deaconess
Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born Dec. 8, 1939 in New Florence, Mo.,
the son of Cecil Worrick and Marie Hester
(Simmons) Buttery. He married Wanda Lou Duvall
Dec. 5, 1958. Mr. Buttery was pastor of Georgia
General Baptist Church east of Carmi. He was a
member of the Ridgway Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Wanda Buttery
of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and
Phillip Wilson of Portland, Tenn.; one son and
daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kathy Buttery of Newport,
N.C.; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Susy

4 Sept. 2009. Have had Aaron Newcomb on my mailing
list since Dec. 1987 . He is from the Lewis Newcomb

was John and Martha Ann (Hart) Aud�s family. Aaron is

Allen and Grandma Hannah Iona (Melton) Hart lived on
the Lewis Newcomb farm east of Herald, Illinois when,
