Martin married Mary Morris who was born Octoer 22, 1825 - died January 20, 1873. Martin called "Hamp" was born August 8, 1826 in Bedford County TN. He became a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in June 1843, ate age 17. In February 1851, the church "believing that he had a public gift, authorized him to exercise his gift at any time or place he chose and also authorized the clerk to write out his license when called for". However no record is shown in the church minutes stating that a license was given him. He was a delegate from Mt. Hermon to the Duck River Assoc. in early 1854. It was in Octobe of 1854, the "year of the great Drouth" that he took his family to Illinois. According to Marlow Wasson, a friend and relative by marriage, the Hart family crossed the Ohio River at Golconda and spent their first night in Illinois on the Old Starr place just north of Golconda. It was said that Martin could hae bought the Draper place (later called the Owens place) at that time for a "bit" - 12 1/2 cents per acre. No one knows why he did not make this investment. No one has been able to determin why Martin was given so many names... Martin Marshall Leroy Hampton Hart . Martin and Mary were the parents of 7 children. Lathora "Sally" Elder, 74, of Raleigh, died 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Fountain View Nursing Home of Eldorado. She was born Oct. 28, 1926, in Harrisburg to the late James W. and (Charity) Mauree (Hart) Williams. She married Webber Elder Nov. 25, 1971. He preceded her in death. A graveside service was 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. She worked for Credit Thrift for 20 years. She is survived by a nephew, a niece, three great-nephews, a great-niece, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Thayrel Williams.

Elsie V. Love, 85, formerly of Morehouse, Mo., died at 1:05 p.m. Feb. 19, 2004, at the St. Anne Center in Rockford. Born July 2, 1918, at Morehouse, Mo., to the late Thomas and Dimple Jones Sheeter, she was a member of the Morehouse Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. On Aug. 29, 1935, at Morehouse, she married Carlos E. Love who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1979. She was also preceded in death by: two brothers, Thomas Sheeter and Fred Sheeter. Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Garry and Barbara Love of Sikeston and Steve Love of Pineville, La.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis Kinson of Rockford and Carla and Fred Lewis of Tinley Park; three grandchildren, Karen Turner and David Love of Sikeston and Andrew Lewis of Tinley Park; two great-grandchildren, Krista Taylor and Ashley Taylor of Sikeston; one sister, Betty Jean Payne of Morehouse; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at 1: p.m. at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Pallbearers will be: Bob Landers, Harold Beaird, Jim McNiell, Gary Howard, Bob Stinnett and Keven Sneathern. JOHN LELAND HART - Funeral services for retired Maj. John L. Hart, 84, Lawton, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Lawton, Okla. Major Hart died Thursday in an Oklahoma hospital. Burial with full military honors will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Okla. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 at the funeral home. He was born on January 10, 1923 in Carrier Mills to Dr. A. E. and Annie (Hetherington) Hart. He graduated from Western Michigan University with his bachelor’s degree and earned his master’s degree in 1948 from Drake University. He married Wanda Lee Wilkins on March 14, 1943 in Jackson, Missouri. She died August 19, 2003 in Lawton. He served in the Marine Corps as a second Lieutenant from 1942-1945, participating in the invasion and occupation of Okinawa. He was recalled into the Army in 1948 and served until retiring in 1966. He served as an infantry commander with the 24th Infantry Division in the Korean War and was involved in four major battles. He taught at Eisenhower Junior High School from 1967 until his retirement in 1986. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Suzanne Hart of Columbia, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Phillip Curtis of Annandale, Va.; four grandchildren, Kirk Hart, Stephanie Hart, Travis Curtis and Sidney Curtis; and two great grandchildren, Frannie Hart and Hannah Hart. His wife, a grandson, John Robert Hart, his parents, three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

JOHN GERALD HART, age 82 of 417 North 2nd Street Harrison, a retired insurance agent, died at the Boone County Hospital Friday Dec. 17. He was born Jan. 24, 1889 at Eddyville Illinois son of James D. and Minnie Broadway Hart. A former resident of Newton county, he had lived in Boone County for two years. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Myrtle Ballard Hart of the home, two sons, Paul Morris Hart of the home, Gerald E.Hart of Aurora Ill., a brother Ward Hart of Ottawa, Ill.,a sister Lenore Lawson of Cicero Ill., three grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hasty community building by Rev. D.F. Preston with burial in Hasty Cemetery under direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
