In The
REVOLUTION

On this 17th day of October 1832, personally appeared before me, Hugh D. Hale one of voting justices of the peace of said county aforesaid John Kesterson aged seventy three years and resident in the county who being first being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath made the following declaration in order to attain the benefits of the act of Congress passed the 7th June 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated to wit being a resident citizen of the County of Fauquier in the State of Virginia on and previous to the year 1781, he enlisted into the Army of the Revolution at Stafford old court house on the 21th March, 1781 under Lieutenant Hawks [?] and marched to Fredericksburgh and was mustered into service under Col. Hollis and Major John Willis, that he served under Hollis for a short time and was transferred under the command of Col. Gaskins and was commanded by General Steuben. We were sometime at Point of Fork and Steuben marched us from there when the British were in sight of that. From there we marched to Staunton River and by [?] was marched back to Richmond and down James River to Old James Town. At Richmond I was placed under the command of Gen. Wayne and we had a fight with the British at James Town where we got whipped. From there we marched to Little York and remained there until Cornwallis surrendered. I then procured a furlow from the physician attending our Regiment in consequence of the ague which I then had. I went home and staid at home 3 or 4 months. I then rejoined the army at Cumberland court house under General Muhlenburgh and remained at that place until I was discharged on the 21st September 1782. That he has no documentary evidence nor does not know of any officer by which he can establish his service but can establish the same by the testimony of several other persons now residing in this neighborhood, he hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state nor is there any resident minister of the Gospel in his vicinity by whom he can establish the facts required by the Secretary of War in his instructions nor is he able to attend a court.

Joshua Bowling, James Coatney and William Kesterson residing in the County of Green do certify that we are well acquainted with John Kesterson who has subscribed and sworn to the foregoing declaration that we believe him to be seventy three years of age, that he is reputed and believed in the neighbourhood where is resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution and that we concur in that opinion.

John Smith Kesterson
William Booth - Virginia Sea Service
US Pension Bur Oct 30 1841

John Smith Kesterson of Northumberland County Virginia declares that he was personally acquainted with William Booth and that the latter served on board the Protector Galley, Commanded by Captain John Thomas in the Revolutionary War, that said galley was fitted out by the State of Virginia, and that he knew him while he was on duty on board said galley. William Booth served as Sailing Master and Pilot; after his discharge he lived in Northumberland County VA and died September 1789, left no direct heirs but deponent has heard him speak of a brother Thomas Booth of Somerset County Maryland. He enlisted February 1777, and served three years as Master and Pilot, discharged February 1 1780 , was paid to January 1 1810, the year it appears that he died and that the amount at the rate of $152.08 per annum is payable to Francis A Dickens Attorney of Carter Crafford of Warwick County Virginia administrator of said William Booth Deceased

Harcom, enlisted together under Capt. Thomas, who had married their cousin. Elisha Harcom died of small pox, in Norfolk, shortly after the Revolution

John Hill W3814, Continental & Virginia Line, soldier lived in Northumberland County Virginia at enlistment and after the Revolution he lived in Maryland, then moved to Hancock County Georgia and Soldier applied there 4 February 1833 aged 82 or 83 and soldier died there 12 November 1842. Soldier had married Nancy daughter of George & Mary Kesterson in 1779 or 1780 in Northumberland County Virginia and she was born 29 May 1761, widow applied 7 July 1845 Hancock County Georgia and she died there 10 December 1845. Children were: Molly born in January or June 1781, Elizabeth born 26 May 1783, George born 24 March 1785, Dolley born 9 June 1787, Nancy born 2 January 1790, Salley born 12 March 1792, Martin born 1 July 1794, Lues born 15 December 1796, Trisy born 17 March 1803 and Henrietta born 20 October 1806 and in 1845 she made affadavit in Hancock County Georgia, widow died leaving 5 children but none were named (1 lived in South Carolina the others in Georgia, Widows sister Chloe Kesterson was born 27 January 1763
