Hello one and all-- Guess everyone has survived the winter which wasn't too bad for us here in the midwest. Lynn and I are talking about moving to a warmer climate - so far its just talk but you never can tell. My research as slowed down and totally expanded all at the same time. The internet continues to amaze me with all the data and information there is to be had on it. I have started a "personal" Kesterson Web page. You can get to it at this address: www.angelfire.com/il2/cwalters/index.html. This one will list the data that I have collected. Containing such things as Census Reports, Births, Deaths, Obits, Deeds etc. Not all of it has been proven but it is intended to be a guide in which you can look for something and then go find the original. Please take a special look at the Kesterson Descendants page which you can access from the address listed above. I have attempted to put all your family lines down to you on there with emails included for those that have him. Please make sure that the information is listed correctly and let me know if you want anything added or removed.

I just found this interesting little bit of information. I don't know what he was in Prison for but would be interesting to find out if we could find the court records which I imagine would be in Greene Co IN.

Seventh Annual Report of the Warden of the Indiana State Prison, November 3, 1852

CONVICTS IN INDIANA STATE PRISON WHO WERE BORN IN OHIO KESTERSON:: Mirida, Jun. 27 Ohio Greene (County)

Delores Clifford has contacted us hoping to find some information on her ancestor. If anyone can help send the information to me and I'll pass it on to Delores (or email her direct). Her mother is/was B Pearl Hammond born Nov 9 1917 in Caruthersville MO. Her grandfather left when the mother was about 4 years old and she did not see him again. Her mother would not talk about her father but other relatives told Delores that he had been married before and had several children by that first marriage. The grandfather (father of B Pearl) was Frank Elgin Hammond who was born March 1875 in TN. The 1900 Census for Lawrence Co AR lists Frank with a wife Lizzie born Jun 1874 MO (thought to be Lizzie Kesterson) and a son Felix Hammond b Apr 1897 AR and a son Elgie b Jan 1899 AR. Listed also was a sister in law named Lessie Kesterson b Jan 1889 AR. Note that Lizzie was much older than Lessie so its assumed that she might have been a sister and taking care of Lessie. In 1910 the Census in Caruthersville, Pemiscot Co MO gave Lizzie as the wife and sons Felix and Elgie still at home. Daughter Minnie was 8 born in MO and Daughter Lulu was 6 born Mo. Daughter Stella 4 born MO Son Earl N R b MO and again Lessie Kesterson listed as age 22 born AR. Now I haven't heard of any Kestersons in Lawrence Co AR or Pemiscot Co MO so if anyone has any ideas please let me know...

While browsing around on the Internet one day I found this article about the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo Co CA. I have just copied the first few paragraphs. There is an Irving Kesterson mentioned. My files have but one Irving Kesterson born about 1891in Gold Hill OR and died about 1958. Irving was the son of George Harvey Kesterson b 1864 in Lafayette MO & Clara May Tompkins. Irving would then descend from John Henry Jr and Sarah Davis Kesterson of Greene Co TN.

"The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County came into being March 31, 1942, four months after Pearl Harbor Day. San Mateo County had many miles of rough, almost virgin country and unprotected coastline accessible only on horseback. Military support and protection against subversion were the principle needs that provoked the founding of the Patrol. The Mounted Patrol provided protection to our shores during the war period and provided search parties in these areas as required by the authorities.

Four men were instrumental in the original organization. They called a meeting in Redwood City during January of 1942. To this small meeting were called eight additional men who can be considered the Charter members.

After the war, the middle years, the Patrol acquired 22 acres of property in the heart of Woodside, California, and built the most beautiful outdoor rodeo and horseshow arena in California (dedicated to Irving Kesterson, an early captain), along with a grandstand and clubhouse.

John Rankin stumbled across the following listing in the 1880 Census of Madison Co AL

HH Dwelling 120 Family 127. Page 14 Enumerated 22 Jun 1880.
David Kesterson White Male age 68 Widowed born TN TN TN (b 1812)
S A Kesterson White Female wife age 60 Married born TN VA AL (b 1820)
Docia Kesterson White Female age 43 daughter single born AL AL AL (b1837)
QUESTION:: Why was David Widowed and S A wife Married. Probably an error but questionable. Anyone know who this David was? What Kesterson family was living around the Madison Co AL area at that time? If David is the Husband of S A and the father of Docia why does it show Docia's father born in AL (Should be TN)?

Here is another tidbit of information I came across that we can all mull around and chew on for awhile. The "Meaning" of a surname. You can find this on the net if you want to look up some of your other surnames: http://clanhuston.com/name/namei-o.htm

Kesterson: Some names are a combination of types: In Germany, the official in charge of the church sacristy was the Kuester (the English equivalent was Sexton) and Kiester, Kester and Koester are variations of that occupational name. The - son at the end is a Patronymic designation that denotes the descendant of the Church Kuester.

[NOTE: Rachel Penix Lane received this bible as a Christmas gift from her husband in 1922. I recently heard from Helen Williamson. She is interested in communicating with anyone researching the Townsend Family of Union AR. Her names are James Townsend from TN who had 3 sons. Henry Pinckney b 1830 , John Riley Townsend who married Mary Kesterson in AR, and Elbert Green Townsend and a daughter Earleen. I have given her the names and addresses of all of you that are connected with the Townsend line so expect to hear from her soon.

I also heard from Tony Calvin who is researching the HOPPER line. I sent him address/emails of those of you who are working on that line. Tony descends from Rhoda Kesterson/Blackgrove Hopper through their daughter Dorcas Hopper
