New Address of Kesterson Kollections Website
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bandy/kest.html

The Kesterson Kollections website has been moved to a new server. I got really tired of all the popup ads that Angelfire had so decided to move everything over to Rootsweb. There are still ads but they are not of the disruptive variety. The new address is at the top of this page so make a note of it. For awhile there will be a re-direct from the Angefire - but eventually I will take it down completely.

28 May 2004 - Six to be inducted into WV Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame

Six stalwarts of agriculture and forestry in West Virginia will be honored with enshrinement into the West Virginia Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame Saturday, July 10, during a ceremony at West Virginia University Jackson’s Mill. This year’s honorees are Harold G. Burke, Maurice L. Allman, the late George D. Curtin, Sr., William N. Grafton, the late Harry Lee Kesterson and Edward W. Rock.

The late Harry Lee Kesterson, formerly of Parkersburg, was a leading figure in West Virginia’s cattle industry. He helped lead the development of the new United Livestock Market in Mineral Wells, serving on its board of directors and as the company’s treasurer. Kesterson helped introduce the Limousin breed of cattle to West Virginia and was a lifetime member of the North American Limousin Association. In addition to managing his family’s 350-acre dairy farm, he established a successful farm machinery business. In 1974, he was named Farmer of the Year by the West Virginia Soil Conservation Society. An active supporter of youth in agriculture, he was a member of the 4-H Board of Directors and hosted field days at his farm. Kesterson was also active with the Little Kanawha Soil Conservation District, the West Virginia Farm Bureau and the Farmer’s Home Administration. He died in 1984

**With this induction we now have bragging rights as two of our cousins are now honored with Hall of Fame status. Remember our James W. Kesterson, of Winterhaven FL is in the "Citrus Hall of Fame" for his contributions.

I can't remember if this has been in any of the previous newsletters so just in case - I'll toss it in here. Divorced - 14 July 1920 (Pottawattamie County Iowa) - married on 28 January 1891 Kesterson, Donelain, White, 48, Irish - Kesterson, Emma, White, 51 - American Cruel and Inhuman Treatment Donelan Oliver Kesterson was the son of Solomon Thomas & Sarah (Rains) Kesterson - so perhaps his mother was "irish". His wife was Sarah "Emma" Utterback. Take note that this marriage lasted 29 years before the divorce occurred - can't say they didn't give it a chance!!

If anyone is interested in the WARD/KESTERSON book here is the info. This book is about the descendants of William Logan Ward & his wife Eliza Jane Kesterson. If you will remember, Eliza Jane Kesterson was found on the 1850 Census in Campbell Co TN. She was 8 years of age, living in the home of Elizabeth (Grass) Kesterson the wife of Hazzard Kesterson. She was dmarried to William Ward August 9, 1855 in Campbell Co TN. We are assuming that she was a grandaughter of Hazzard and Elizabeth but there has not been any solid proof of this theory as yet. Her parents are still unknown so we don't know which of Hazzards sons she might have belonged to. The book consists of 2 large volumes, compiled and written in 2003

Eliza Jane is the only Kesterson mentioned in the book.

Here are the details of the Murder/Death of Ora Kesterson in 1951, wife of Elmer Kesterson. I was fortunate to receive copies of most all of the story from the Library in Athens Co. Ohio and Julia Kesterson helped me out with who his parents were as well as birth/death dates. This was big news in Nelsonville, Athens County OH in 1951 - the debate may still be going on as to who was responsible and to what extent.

I also have the news report of the Samuel Kesterson Murder Trial. This occurred in 1929-30 - Moultrie County IL and I have no clear idea who this Samuel was connected to. He had a wife and two children but no names were given in the news article.

It appears he was born about 1871 the son of John T. & Mary (McCune) Kesterson of the DuBois Co IN area. Samuel was convicted of the murder of his stepfather Daniel A. Nicholson in Indiana. He was given a life sentence. Records indicate he escaped from prison at least 2 times. The first time recaptured and returned to prison and the second time in 1893 when he apparently was not ever found again. He was married to Minnie Byrum in 1888 in IN and after his trial in 1889 she moved to Effingham IL. While in prison Samuel was served with divorce papers. Since this event has taken place in the nearby area of Effingham I'm thinking its probably the same Samuel who found his wife there. I have no proof of my theory - but it makes some sense - and it fits. Angela Meadows sent the "jury" part of the article to me.. now I hope we can find a "verdit" somewhere.

The Biography of Harry Lee Kesterson and Stephen Davis have been added.

If you check the Marriage page you will find the Wedding write up of Lon C. Kesterson to Dollie Warren.
