Newton Caleb & Genevra Acree Wedding

Sault Ste Marie Michigan - September 2, 1936

The home of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Ross, 603 Kimball Street, was the scene of a colorful wedding Wednesday morning, September 2, 1936, when Miss Ginevra Acree, daughter of Mrs. George Acree of Greencastle, Indiana, became the bride of Newton C. Walters, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Walters of Wild Rose, Wisconsin. The Rev. John Ver Straate of the First Presbyterian church officiated at the ceremony at 11:00 o'clock.

The bridal party entered the flower filled living room to the strains of the bridal chorus from Lohengrin, played by Harry Ross. The bride was charming in a floor length gown of pastel blue lace. Her arm bouquet was of Johanna Hill and briarcliff roses, with gypsophila and fern. Miss Evelyn Acree was her sister's bridesmaid. She wore a beige lace, floor length dress, and carried an arm bouquet of talisman roses.

Andrew Baker was best man for Mr. Walters. Mrs Ross was hostess at a luncheon immediately following the ceremony for the bridal party and their guests. The bride's table was attractive with sweet peas and a lace cloth. The four-tier wedding cake was flanked by ivory tapers in copper holders.

Out of town guests at the wedding were Miss Lois Walters, sister of the bridegroom, of Wild Rose, Wisconsin, and Miss Evelyn Acree, sister of the bride, of Shelbyville, Indiana.

Mr and Mrs Walters left Wednesday afternoon on their honeymoon which they will spend at Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. Upon their return they will make their home at 313 Maple Street.

Mrs Walters is employed as a technician at the War Memorial Hospital, and Mr. Walters is connected with the local United States Army Engineers' Office. Mrs. Walters was honored at several social events prior to her marriage.
