This book is 500 pages of Hort History dating from the year 1660 - 2003. Includes hundreds of photographs, maps, & certificates.

My Hort relatives and connecting families shared their family photos, histories and information to help me build this timeline so future generations will know where and from whom they are descended.

  "Time & Truth" Hort Connections

I had always wanted to record the history of my Hort family, and now that I have achieved this, it gives me great pleasure to hand it on to my children and other interested family members. As the years pass by it is my hope that this book of our history will be passed onto future generations.

There is usually one person in a family who seems to be called to find their ancestors. I feel that somehow those that have passed before us would approve of that person passing on their family stories, putting flesh on their bones, breathing life into them and making them live again. Everyone has a story to tell we don't have to be rich and famous. One day someone somewhere will be interested in knowing who we were.

Doing genealogy is not just the gathering of facts. We are the storytellers of our tribe and all tribes have one. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who we are, and why we do the things we do? It goes to seeing a cemetery overgrown with weeds and headstones becoming lost forever, and saying I must do something about this. The bones here are bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses; they're never giving in or giving up. Their resourcefulness to go on and build a life for their family.

With love and caring and writing all the facts I've found of their existence, I tell the story of this my family. It is up to someone in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of storytellers. I cannot stress enough to those of you who read this book the importance of asking questions and listening to the older generations in your lives. Record their stories while they are alive to tell the tales, don't wait until it's to late.

'TIME & TRUTH' Hort Connections began with me writing my own life story, and that of my parents and grandparents. Having been a Genealogist for many years, I had gathered information on many branches of the Hort family going back to England in the 1600's. I decided to try my hand at constructing a timeline of all the Horts I had found along the way. I also thought if I died tomorrow, what would happen to my research notes, would they end up at the tip.

Little meat for the bones was found for some branches of our Hort tree, not that these branches don't have a history; it's trying to locate a storyteller to pass that history on. Other families had storytellers who were thrilled to help out by contributing what they could.
