Joseph J. Campbell

-- Son of Samuel and Sarah (Hunter) Campbell of Salineville, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio. Enlisted in the 3rd Regt, Co. K, on 15 Jun 1861. Joseph was promoted to Corpl on 16 Oct 1861. Mustered out on 21 Jun 1864.

James Campbell

-- Son of Samuel and Sarah (Hunter) Campbell of Salineville, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio. He enlisted on June 15, 1861, age 21, as a Private. On June 15, 1861 he mustered into "K" Company Ohio 3rd Infantry. He died on August 24, 1863 at Evansville, Indiana of disease. James is buried Woodland Cemetery, Salineville, Columbiana County.

Harvey Campbell

-- Son of Samuel and Sarah (Hunter) Campbell of Salineville, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio. Enlisted on June 15,1861, age 19, as a Private. On June 15, 1861 he mustered into "K" Company Ohio 3rd Infantry. He was mustered out on June 21, 1864 and reenlisted on August 20, 1864, age 21. He was promoted to Full 1st Sergt. on September 12, 1864, and to Full 2nd Leiut. on March 18, 1865 (as of Co. E); transferred on March 18, 1865 from Co. D to Co. E 176 O.V.I. After the war he was a member of Sergeant Thompson post No. 235 of Salineville.

Samuel and Sarah (Hunter) Campbell:

Samuel Campbell was born on 21 Mar 1814 in Wayne Twp, Columbiana Co, Ohio. He married Sarah Hunter on September 3, 1833, in Columbiana County. The marriage was performed by Presbyterian minister Clement Vallandigham. Sarah was the daughter of John and Mary (Maden) Hunter, was born in about 1815 in Salineville, Columbiana County, Ohio. Samuel, Sarah and their sons lived on a small farm near Salineville, in Washington Township, Columbiana County during the 1850 census year. Samuel was a farmer.

Known Children of Samuel and Sarah (Hunter) Campbell:

John Franklin -- born about 1834, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio; married Sarah Ann Maple (b ca 1836) in about 1860. Known children: Joseph, Violet, James, William, Larson, Oscar, and Edwin. The family was living beside Harvey in 1870, in Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio. John was a coal miner. He died in 1890 in Irondale, Jefferson County, Ohio.

William Hunter -- born 9 Sep 1836, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio; died 18 June 1862, Atlanta, DeKalb, GA. He Was an Ohio civilian who worked for the Union Army during the early years of the American Civil War. He participated in a raid behind enemy lines on the Western and Atlantic Railroad, known famously as the Great Locomotive Chase. The mission failed and Campbell and seven fellow raiders were executed by the Confederates on the charge of spying. Buried: National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennesse.

James -- born 1840, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio; died at Evansville Indiana on August 24, 1863. In 1860, he was living with his parents and brothers on the family farm in Columbiana County. He was a farm laborer, and, as far as we have been able to determine, unmarried.

Harvey H. -- born August 10, 1843, Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio. He married Mary "Mollie" Brown (1846-1907) and had children: George, Anna (Mrs. Daniel Sheckler), Mary May (Mrs. William C. Busby), Sanora "Nora" ( Mrs. Gotschall), Liza, Jefferson, James H., Daisy (Mrs. Barker), Jessie L. (Mrs. Walter Hackathorn), and Lillian (Mrs. Stevens). He was a stone mason and coal miner. Harvey moved his family to Ross Township, Jefferson County between 1870 - 1880; and from there to Springfield Township. Harvey died on July 14, 1894 in Bergholz, Jefferson County, Ohio, and is buried in the Bergholz Cemetery, as is his widow, Mollie. Name variations: Harry H., Camel, Cambell.
