BOLIVAR --- J. Frank Malcuit, 71, a retired farmer, died Thursday in Union Hospital, Dover, after a brief illness. He was a life resident of Bolivar and a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs Minerva Malcuit; one son, Electrician's Mate 2/c Robert of Norfolk, Va; six daughters, Mrs Elva Laughlin and Mrs Iva Ferren of Newton Falls, Mrs Gladys Neighbor of Paris and Mrs Ruth Heid, Mrs Dorothy Widder and Mrs Eleanor Huth of Bolivar; one brother Augustus Malcuit of Bolivar, and 28 grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2:30 pm in the Shew parlors with burial in Ft Laurens Cemetery.

BOLIVAR --- Services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm in the Lebold funeral home here for Mrs Minerva Malcuit, 84, of Bolivar, who died Saturday in her home.

Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death. Survivors include six daughters and two sons.

Callers Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home. Burial Fort Laurens Cemetery.

BOLIVAR NATIVE, DIES ON COAST

BOLIVAR, March 16 [1945]-- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Malcuit have been informed of the death of their son, Remus R. Malcuit, 46, assistant superintendent of Consolidated Aircraft Corp., Tuesday at his home in San Diego.

Born near Bolivar and a graduate of the local high school, Mr. Malcuit had resided in San Diego 10 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Masonic and Moose Lodges there.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his widow and a son, both of San Diego; a brother, Robert, with the Navy at Camp Perry, Va., and six sisters, Mrs. Ronald Widder, Mrs Howard Heid and Mrs. Justin Huth of Bolivar, Mrs. Roger Neighbor of Paris and Mrs. Robert Laughlin and Mrs. Donald Ferrin of Newton Falls.

The body is to be cremated in San Diego. Burial will be in Bolivar.

Special to the Cincinnati Commercial Newcomerstown O.. May 29 -- Ezekiel McFarland, a prominent farmer north of town, died suddenly last night, sitting in a chair. He was talking to his wife, stopped suddenly, and when she looked at him he was a corpse, he having expired without a struggle. He was sixty years old.

Harold L. Moore, 85, of Navarre, passed away, Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 in Aultman Hospital. Harold was born in Bergholz, Ohio on June 17, 1931, a son of the late Wakefield and Gretchen (Helmick) Moore. He was a the owner of Harold Moore, Inc., a trucking company. Harold is survived by his loving wife, (name omitted); a step daughter, (name omitted); a step son, (name omitted); three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a sister, (name omitted); and two brothers, (names omitted). He is preceded in death by a son Larry and a daughter Terry. Harold was proud of being Scout Master of Troop 143 of Malvern from 1962-1968 and taking Scouts to the World's Fair in 1964. Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church of Malvern, 4046 Coral Rd NW, Malvern, OH 44644, at noon, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 with Pastor Kenny Thomas officiating. MAN KILLED HERE ESCAPED CONVICT

Victim of Train Was Convicted of Shooting His Wife

The middle-aged man who was killed attempting to board a freight train here July 31 was an escaped convict from an Ohio prison. Coroner R.H. Stokes revealed last night. The man's real name was Wakefield Moore.

Moore sustained a fracture of the skull and broken neck when he attempted to climb on a moving freight train in the Omaha railroad yeards here. He had given men with whom he was traveling several different names but a small notebook in his pocket contained a page on which the following was written: "Send me to Emma McConnel, Bergholz, Ohio. My name is Clarence Miller."

There was also another address at Indianapolis. Coroner Stokes wired both places and received a letter from Bergholz in reply. The letter described Moore carefully, mentioning a scar on the man's temple and other marks on his body. It further revealed that Moore had been sent to prison for seriously wounding his wife with a revolver bullet.

Moore and another man made their escape from the London, Ohio prison farm several months ago and the dead man had evidently been roaming around the country ever since. A letter from a brother, found in his pocket, contained the sentence, "I am glad they have not caught you yet." Moore formerly lived at Canton, Ohio. Emma McConnell is a sister.

In a reply to a wire from the coroner authorities at the prison farm verified the identification.

Moore's relatives are too poor to have the body sent back there for burial, Mr Stokes was informed. The man will be buried by the county here Tuesday.

The mishap which led to Moore's death is believed due to the fact that he had secured quite a number of bums at the Burl bakery and was trying to hold them as he tried to get aboard the moving train. He was 52 years of age.

Otto Milo Morrow -age 51, passed away Thursday, May 8, 1969, in Timken Mercy Hospital following surgery. Born in Bergholz, Ohio, had been a Canton resident for 23 years. He was employed as a painter. Member of the Painters Local No 603, loyal order of the Moose Canton Lodge No 233, Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theater. Survived by his mother Mrs. Ina Morrow of the home, brothers Dean P. of Navarre, Ohio, and Charles O. of Arlington Va; sisters Mrs. August (Florence) Temme of Canton, Mrs. Shirley Coleman of the home.

"Girl, 17, ill 14 Years Dies of Heart Ailment"

Burdelle Neighbor, 17-year-old girl, who was ill more that 14 years with a rheumatic heart condition died Monday afternoon in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Neighbor of 5026 Wiseland ave, North Industry.

Dedfast during most of her illness, news stories concerning her fight for recovery brought scores of gifts and messages offering suggestions. Recently, officials of United Airlines rushed a shipment of special melons here in the hope they might help improver her condition.

Burdell, on her 16th birthday, was confirmed in the North Industry Evangelical and Lutheran Church at a private service.

In addition to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Neighbor, she leaves two sisters (names omitted); two foster sisters (names omitted), and her grandfather, Alvin Neighbor of the home and Joseph Thompson of Salem.

The body is at the McCreery-Kreighbaum funeral home on Cleveland ave SW and will be taken to the residence where friends may call after 7 tonight and after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be conducted in the Lutheran Church Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev W.O. Calvert in charge. Burial will be in Melschelmer Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church an hour before the funeral.

Delnor Robert Neighbor

May 4, 1962, Stark County, Ohio

Neighbor, Delnor R., 27, of 2806 26th St. NE passed away at Aultman Hospital Friday noon following a prolonged illness. Born in Strasburg, lived the greater part of his life in Stark County. He was an industrial art teacher at Canton South High School, debate coach and Jr. High football coach. In 1958 and 1959 he taught at the Kingsville High School. Member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow, Elaine; one daughter (name omitted) of the home, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roger D. Neighbor, Sr.; two brothers (names omitted), all of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Marie) Baughman, Mrs. (name omitted) both of Waynesburg. Preceding him in death was one brother, Remus and one sister, Undine. Services Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Krieghbaum Funeral Home with pastor Richard Keenan officiating. Burial in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Former students will serve as pallbearers.

"He Kept Smiling"

The death of Delnor Neighbor at the age of 27 was no shock. He had lived somewhat longer than he had expected to live. His malignancy was fatal from the time of its discovery a few years ago.

But what he was able to do with his life while awaiting its premature end became one of the warmest wonders of this community. He won the hearts of his teaching associates at South High School. He earned the admiration of the school district. He was an example to all his old and new friends, and inspiration to everybody who heard about him.

They showed their gratitude by the generoisity of their help to him and his family. They felt they owed to him everything they could do because he kept smiling through one of the grimmest ordeals a young man could face. He taught them how a brave man dies.

Bolivar-- Mrs. Gladys Neighbor, 61, a native of here and life long resident of the Bolivar-Canton area, died Tusday morning in Molly Stark Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Neighbor was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Malcuit. She was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Roger D., are two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Marie I. Baughman and Mrs. Partricia L. Richardson of Waynesburg and Roger and Eugene R. of North Canton; 5 sisters and a brother, Mrs. Eleanor Huth, Mrs. Iva Miller and Mrs. Ruth Heid of here, Mrs Dorothy Widder of East Sparta, Mrs. Elva Laughlin of Newton Falls and Robert of North Canton and 15 grandchldren. A daughter and 2 sons preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1pm Thursday in Kreighbaum Funeral Home at Canton with Rev. Harold L. Henniger officiating. Interment will be in Fort Laurens Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Canton -- Private funeral services were to be held today in Kreighbaum Funeral Home for Roger D. Neighbor, 62, retired farmer and life resident of the area, who died Monday in his farm home. Burial was in Ft. Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Marie) Baughman and Mrs Glen (Patricia) Richardson of Waynesburg; a brother Earl of North Industry; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Effie) Niesz of RD, East Sparta, and 15 grandchildren.

Jacob Neighbor

Last week the News made a brief mention of the death of Jacob Neighbor, which occurred at Grant hospital, Columbus, early Tuesday morning, Feb. 18, following an operation held about a week previous.

While the nature of Mr. Neighbor's last illness seems to be a matter of conjecture, it is known to have been greatly aggravated by a hard fall from a horse about a year ago. Since that time his ailment grew rapidly worse until an operation was advised as the only possibility of saving his life. On account of age and general conditions, however, he could not stand the shock and death resulted.

Mr. Neighbor was the last of a family of eight children, only four of whom lived to maturity, born to Jacob and Susanna Neighbor, early pioneers who came here from New Jersey. He was born March 6, 1844, and was nearing his 75th birthday.

The pioneer blood of his sturdy ancestors ran true in his veins, marking his life as one of ceaseless toil, careful judgment and conscientious dealings with his fellow men. He could have left no grander monument to his name than the universal respect his life commanded from those who knew him.

Jacob-Neighbor was married Sept. 20, 1870 to Jane McFarland, also of pioneer birth, who bore him four children. John A. died in 1904 from injuries received where he was kicked by a runaway horse. The wife and mother, together with the following children, survive: Theo C. of Hutchison, Kans., Alvin 0. of Bolivar and Mrs. Anna Keiser of this city.

The deceased was an honored veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted Feb. 19, 1863, at the age of 18 years with the 51st 0.V. I., serving until the close of the war. It was particularly fitting at his funeral that the pallbearers were composed of young men of the great World War, all in uniform, just recently returned from service. They were Hugh Macmillan, Earl Smith, Harry Fletcher, Lloyd Ley, John Wilson and Carl Neal.

Funeral services were held at the home of the daughter, Mrs. J. E. Keiser, on North Goodrich St. last Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. A. E. Blick, pastor of the M. P. church, assisted by Rev. M. L. Oliver, pastor of the U. B. church and life-long friend of the deceased. A large concourse of neighbors and friends were in attendance to honor the member of a worthy citizen. Interment in local cemetery.

Mrs. Jane Neighbor

Mrs. Jane Neighbor, who would have been 90 years of age on her next birthday, died at 2 p. m. Thursday, Nov. 3rd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Keiser, Good- rich St., where she had made her home since the death of her husband, Jacob Neighbor, several years ago. Her death was due to infirmities of age.

She was born Dec. 2, 1842, north of Newcomerstown, the daughter of the late Ezekiel and Isabel McFarland. She united with the M. P. church in early life, and was the oldest member in age of the Newcomerstown M. P. church.

Surviving are two sons, Alvin of Canton and Theodore of Hutchison, Kans.; the daughter, Mrs. Keiser, at whose home she died; a brother, John McFarland of Monrovia, Kans.; a sister, Mrs. Hannah Davis of Bakersville, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the M. P. church, conducted by Rev. C. E. Jeffers. Burial was made in the local cemetery.

Remus N. Neighbor

DELLROY -- Remus N. Neighbor, 33, of RD 1, Dellroy, died yesterday in Aultman Hospital at Canton following an illness of 2 years.

He was born at Bolivar, the son of Roger and Gladys Malcuit Neighbor of the home. He was last employed by the Canton Drop Forge Co.

Surviving besides the parents are 3 brothers, Roger Jr., Eugene and Delnor of Canton and 3 sisters, Mrs. Paul Herstine of RD 1, Dellroy, Mrs. Art Baughman Jr. and Mrs. Glen Richardson of Waynesburg.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Kreighbaum Funeral Home at Canton with Rev. A.E. Wizenreid officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. tomorrow until the services.

Roger Junior Neighbor

Roger Junior Neighbor, age 83, went home to the Lord Friday, June 2, 2006. He was born July 14, 1922, to Roger and Gladys (Malcuit) Neighbor and was a lifelong resident of the Canton area.

He was extremely proud to have served his country during World War II as a Marine having served in Guam and Iwo Jima from 1942-1945. He continued to show his patriotism throughout his life.

He was an industrious and hardworking man who had served 20 years as a custodian for Canton Local School District, retiring in 1984. He had also served as a bus driver for MRDD Workshop, prior to which he had been a milkman for many years with the Holguerns Dairy.

He was an active member of North Industry United Methodist Church and Canton South AARP and was a former Boy Scout Leader with Troop No. 200.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Norma June Neighbor in 2000; two brothers, Delnor and Rehmus Neighbor; two sisters, Marie Baughman and Undine Herstine; two grandsons, Ryan and Seth Neighbor; dear friends, Lawrence and Peggy Bell.

He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law (names omitted); he will be missed by grandchildren (names omitted); great-grandchildren, (names omitted); and his dear friends, (names omitted)

A celebration of life will be Thursday, June 8, 2006, at 11 a.m. in North Industry United Methodist Church with Rev. David Ross officiating. Interment in South Lawn Cemetery at Beach City. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., Canton, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to North Industry U.M.C. or the Boy Scouts of America.

Norma June Neighbor, age 77, of Canton, died Thursday morning at Aultman Hospital following a sudden illness. She was a former employee of Jacks Qwik Shake and Finney's Drug Store. A member of North Industry United Methodist Church for 46 years and the Canton South AARP. Survived by her husband, Roger; four sons and daughters-in-law, (names omitted) eight grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, (names omitted). A grandson is deceased. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at North Industry United Methodist Church with Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial in South Lawn Cemetery in Beach City. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave., and one half hour before the service (9:30-10 a.m.) on Monday at the church.

Blanche A. Peterson

Blanche Peterson - age 74, who made her home with son Terry Hackathorn, passed away Saturday April 1, 1978 in Timken Mercy Hospital, Canton, OH. Her death was due to complications following an extended illness. Born in Bergholz, Ohio she had been a resident of Canton for the past 50 years. Preceded in death by her husband William Hackathorn and a son, Lester Hackathorn. Survived by son Terry Hackathorn; four daughters. [names omitted] There are nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, OH.
