Daniel Allison

1917, Tuscarawas County, Ohio

Daniel Allison of Shanesville, a former stock buyer, aged 83 yrs., 1 mon., 24 days, died on Saturday afternoon of heart trouble while sitting in a rocking chair at his home. Mr. Allison had been sick with the shingles for some time, but had remained about the same until he had the attack. He leaves to mourn wife, 1 son and two daughters. The funeral was held Tuesday leaving the residence at 12 o'clock. Services were conducted at the Bunker Hill Church near Winfield, where interment was made. He was a member of the Lutheran church.

Robert S. Allison

1959, Tuscarawas County, Ohio

Robert S. Allison, 88, retired barber of Dundee, died at 4:30 am Monday in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Baker of Dundee.

Born near Barrs Mills, he was a son of the late Daniel and Ourdie (Richardson) Allison. He also was employed by the former Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad 45 years. He operated a barber shop in Dundee 50 years before retiring five years ago.

His wife, Dillie (Tetters) Allison, died 10 years ago. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Baker are another daughter and a son, Mrs. Hazel Reif of R1, Dundee, and Glenn Allison, address unknown; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, a son, two sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.

Mr. Allison was a member of the Methodist Church, Dundee, and the K. of P. Lodge of Beach City. Services will be held Thursday at 2 pm (EST) in the Methodist Church with Rev. Carl F. Harbour officiating. Burial will be in Dover burial Park. The Everhart Funeral Home of Shanesville is in charge.

Mrs. Robert Allison

1949, Tuscarawas County, Ohio

Mrs. Dillie Allison, 76, wife of Robert Allison, Dundee barber, died suddenly Thursday afternoon while working in the garden at her home. A native of Tuscarawas Co., Mrs. Allison was a daughter of the late Josiah and Mary Strohm Teeters. She was a member of the First Methodish church of Dundee and the W.S.C.S. of the church. Surviving are her husband; a son, Glen; three daughters, Mrs. Orrel Schumaker of Navarre, Mrs. Hazel Reis of Dundee and Mrs. Mary Plunk of the home; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A son, four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm (fast time) in the Allison residence and at 2:30 in the Dundee Methodist church. Rev. F. L. Mitzel officiated and burial, in charge of the Everhart-Hattery Funeral Home, was in Dover Burial Park.

Catherine R. Becker, age 103, of Canton, died Thursday morning at The Pines following a brief illness. She was born on March 19, 1901 in Canton and resided here all her life. She was employed for many years in the Real Estate Tax Division of Stark County Government. She was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Delta Chapter #539 Order of Eastern Star and McKinley Eagles Lodge #2370. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Becker in 1977, her parents, J. Miller and Lena Richardson, brother, Clarence Richardson and sisters, Elizabeth Deibel and Gertrude Oliver. Mrs. Becker is survived by her nieces, [names removed for privacy]. Funeral services and burial at Forest Hill Cemetery will be private. Arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home.

Jane (Beatty) Becher

Jane B. Becher age 87, of Canton, went to the Lord Aug. 2, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Becher. Jane is survived by her sons, (names deleted); seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, plus many friends and colleagues from years of service at the Stark County Welfare Dept. Jane is missed by all who loved her. In honoring Jane's wishes, their will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mrs. John Borden

1951, Carroll County, Ohio

Mrs. Lue Ella Borden 66, of Sixth Street, Carrollton, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital, Canton, following an operation. She had been ill six months.

Born at New Somerset, she resided in Carrollton more than thirty years, coming from Bergholz. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and Carrolton Crochet Club.

Surviving are her husband, John Borden; two sons, Paul of Dover and Fred of North Canton; three daughters, Mrs. George Frentzel of Canton, Mrs. Loren Stevenson of Massillon and Betty of the home; two brothers, Elmer Duke of Paden City, W. Va., and John of Minerva; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services in the Allmon Funeral Home were Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. H. H. Hoover officiated. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs Wesley Brown Succumbs in California

Mrs Della Brown, widow of Wesley Brown, a Canton resident until two years ago, died Friday at Newport Beach, Calif. Word of her death was received by a niece, Mrs.Murray W Scott of 720 Broad ave NW.

The body is being flown to Canton and is expected to arrive late tonight and will be taken to the Arnold funeral home. Services will be held Tuesday at 3 pm in the funeral home with Rev PH Welshimer in charge. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 pm Sunday and Monday afternoon and evening.

Since going to California, Mrs Brown resided at Corona Del Mar. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Flora Scheiu of Cleveland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr Brown for many years, was proprietor of the Wesley Brown Piano Co. here.

Piano Dealer Passes Away Suddenly Late Saturday Night.

J. Wesley Brown, 51, president of the Brown Piano company, died suddenly at 10:30 o'clock Saturday night at his home, on the North Canton rd, from apoplexy. Mr. Brown was at his work Friday but had been indisposed Saturday and remained away from his office. However, his condition had not been considered serious by members of his family.

Mr. Brown had been in the piano business in Canton for about seven years. He was a member of several organizations, including the Adcraft club and the McKinley club. He was also a member of the First Christian church and Canton lodge, Loyal Order of Moose. During the war he was active in the various campaigns held for the sale of Liberty bonds and war savings stamps as well as in the Red Cross and Y.M.C.A drives.

Besides his widow, Mr. Brown is survived by three brothers, R.R. Brown, Brock Brown and Harry Brown, and a sister, Mrs McWilliams, of East Liverpool. Mr. Brown was a native of Marietta. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.

Mrs. Blanche B. Busby, 88, Rt 4, Box 511A, Orlando, died Tuesday. Born in Bergholz, Ohio, she moved to Orlando from Canton, Ohio, in 1954. She was a teacher and a member of Azalea Park United Methodist Church. Survivors: daughters, (names omitted), N. Canton, Ohio; sister, Mrs. Olive Duncan, Long Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Colonial Funeral Home, Orlando.

Harvey H.Campbell

14 July 1894, Bergholz, Jefferson County, Ohio

KILLED BY A LOCOMOTIVE -- Saturday about 11 o'clock, Harvey H. Campbell was walking between the siding and the main track at Bergholz, when he heard the yard engine approaching. Supposing it to be on the main track he stepped on the siding, when he was struck and run over by the engine which cut off his right leg at the hip. He lived about an hour. Deceased was a coal miner in his 51st year and leaves a wife and ten children. One son and three daughters are married and the others are living at home. He served four years in the army as a member of Co. K 3rd O. V. I. and Co. E 176th regiment. He was also a member of Sergeant Thompson post No. 235 of Salineville. Coroner Maxwell held an inquest on Saturday evening. Funeral services were held by Rev. Mr. Wallion Sunday afternoon.

Special To The Repository, GREENTOWN, Oct 23 -- Hugh M Comstock, 51, manager of the Moock Electric Supply Co. branch in Akron 16 years, died unexpectedly today in his home here from a heart attack. Born in Pennsylvania, he resided in Greentown one year, coming from Akron. He operated a restaurant here for the last year and was a member of the Greentown Lions Club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Catherine Comstock; his mother, Mrs. Eva Hess of Dunmore, Pa, and one sister, Mrs. Emily Jeremiah, and two brothers, Albert and Joseph of Scranton, Pa. The body is at the Myers parlors pending arrangements.

CARROLLTON --H. Elmer Duke, 83, died Thursday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gladys Capper of 571 5th St., NW, with whom he had resided.

Mr. Duke, a retired potter, was a member of the Church of Christ of Carrollton.

He leaves a son, Earl Duke of Chester, W. Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Capper of Carrollton, Mrs. Novadeane Alfred of Montrose, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Kane of Canton; 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ona Duke, in 1962.

Mrs. John Duke Jr., after a short-illness, died early Sunday morning. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. John H. Butler, of the Methodist Episcopal church, and burial was made in Grandview cemetery. Her maiden name was Jessie Jane Maybee, and she was born September 7, 1893, at Greenville, Pa. She was married on April 11, 1911, at Bergholz, to Mr. Duke, who survives with two children, Maude M, aged 7, and Eva L, aged 3-yrs. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Maybee, reside at Harlem, and surviving brothers are George and Ray Maybee, Canton, and Lawrence Maybee, Alliance.

The deceased was born September 3, 1890, in Mercer county, Pa., her parents being Homer and Lizzie Maybee of Harlem Springs. She was married April 5, 1911, to John Duke. Surviving are her husband, parents, two daughters, Maud and Eva, and three brothers, George and Roy Maybee of Canton and Lawrence Maybee of Alliance. Mrs. Duke was a member of the M. E. church.

John Duke

14 January 1920, Carroll County, Ohio

After a sickness of nine months, John Duke died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Borden, E. Main-st, of hardening of the arteries. Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 p. m. this (Friday) afternoon. Services will be conducted by Rev. J. H. Butler.

The deceased was born April 5, 1845, in Jefferson County. He married Sarah Moore in 1873. Mr. Duke had been a resident of Carrollton for four years.

Surviving are the wife, three sons: Charles of Pennsylvania, Elmer and John of Carrollton; a daughter, Mrs. Ella Borden of Carrollton; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Renninger and Mrs. Mary Wright of Columbiana county, and a brother, Addison Duke.

Mr. Duke served in the union army a short time before the close of the civil war.

CARROLLTON -- Mrs. Ona Iddings Duke, 78, who resided with her daughter, Mrs. Gladys Capper of 571 5th St., NW, died Friday at 9:50 p.m. in Mercy Hospital, Canton. Mrs. Duke had been a patient in the hospital since March 17.

Mrs. Duke was a member of the Carrollton Church of Christ and the Woman's Benefit Association of Carrollton.

She leaves her husband, Elmer Duke; a son, Earl Duke of Chester, W. Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Capper of Carrollton, with who she resided, Mrs. Novadeane Aldred of Montrose, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Kane of Canton; a brother, Roy Iddings, of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister Mrs. Harriett Davis of Augusta, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

She was born in Brown Township, Carroll County, Sept. 8, 1883, a daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth Iddings.

Friends may call at the Allmon Funeral Home Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Monday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Mr. William A. Cook will officiate. Burial in Grandview Cemetery, Carrollton.

Mrs. Sarah Ann Duke 78, died Tuesday afternoon September 12, 1933 at the home of her son Elmer Duke on Lisbon St., after a long illness. She was born in Coshocton County, Feb. 14, 1855, the daughter of Charles and Jane Moore. In 1878, she married John Duke in Hammondsville, Ohio. Mr. Duke preceeded her in death in Jan. of 1920. She was a member of the Carrollton Methodist Episcol. Church. She made her home with her son for the past 8 years and has been a resident of Carrollton for 19 years.

Surviving are three sons: Elmer of Carrollton, John, Jr. of Sebring and Charles of Canton, one daughter, Mrs. John W. Borden of Carrollton, two brothers James and William Moore of Bergholz, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Wallace of Malvern, Mrs. Lucy Liggett of Canton, and Mrs. Emma Griffin of Bergholz. Four daughters and two brothers are deceased.

William Lester Dunn

William L. Dunn, age 83, of Canton, passed away Thursday morning, August 27, 1998, in the residence following a brief illness. Born in Bergholz, OH, October 13, 1914, to the late James William and Luccy (Buzzby) Dunn, he lived most of his life in the Canton area; and was a retired employee of the Timken Co., retiring October 1978 after 46 years of service, and served as city councilman from 1968 to 1978. Mr. Dunn was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, 50-year member of Masonic Lodge of Newton Falls, member of Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, Republican Club, member and past president of the Timken Retirees, Masonic Luncheon Club, member and past president of AARP.
