Frederick Paul Cecil Fowler<Joseph Ralph Oral Fowler<James Oliver Fowler

James Oliver Fowler was born January 15, 1848 in Fayette County, Alabama the son of James B. and Trecy Fowler.  

Brothers, John and James Oliver Fowler came from Fayette County, Alabama to Illinois in 1864.  John and James Oliver found their way through the Southern lines and joined the Union Army September 1863.  They served in the First Alabama Cavalry, Company H under Joseph Ford - John as a Corporal and James as a Private.  They were both discharged in Rome, Georgia September 29, 1864, James O. for immature age (16).  They were transported from Rome, Georgia to Toledo, Cumberland County, Illinois and settled in Johnson and Williamson Counties, Illinois.

John was married to Malissa Jane Hudson at the time of his enlistment and they had three children born in Fayette County, Alabama.  They had seven more children born in Illinois.  John and Malissa settled in Williamson County, Illinois where they remained for the rest of their lives.

James Oliver located in Tunnel Hill, Johnson County, Illinois by Fall 1864 and married Mary Jane Sanders June 21, 1865.  They had three children and lived in Johnson County, Illinois until 1919 when they moved to Creal Springs in Williamson County, Illinois.  James Oliver died 1927 at Creal Springs.

Joseph Ralph Oral Fowler was born September 6, 1866 Johnson County, Illinois to James Oliver Fowler and Mary Jane Sanders.

Frederick Paul Cecil Fowler was born February 14, 1902, the son of Joseph Ralph Oral Fowler and Tennessee Jane Hood.

James Oliver and Mary Jane Fowler are buried in County Line Cemetery in Johnson/Williamson County as well as John and Malissa Fowler and two of their young children.

John and James Oliver's parents, James B. and Trecy Fowler, came from Greenville, South Carolina between 1838 and 1841 to Fayette County, Alabama with James B.'s Uncle Daniel Fowler and family.  The parents of James B., John and Ann Fowler, remained in Greenville, South Carolina with the rest of their children.

John and his brother, Daniel, have been linked to William and Margaret Fowler who arrived on Ship Abigail from London, England in 1621.1  They settled in Nansemond Virginia and later Isle of Wight, Virginia.  Their early descendants migrated to Chowan, Sampson, Bladen and Richmond Counties, North Carolina, Greenville County, South Carolina and Fayette County, Alabama.
