First Generation

1. Oliver Charles, son of James Charles and Sarah Halbert, was born about 1762
in Virginia.

Oliver married Elizabeth Heath on 13 May 1788 in Surry County,
North Carolina.

Children from this marriage were:

       2    M      i.     Richard J. Charles was born on 15 Jun 1787 in South Carolina.  He died on 5 Oct 1841 in Hillsboro,
   Coffee County, Tennessee at age 54.
   
   Richard married Martha or Mary _______.
   
       3    M     ii.     John Charles was born on 22 Mar 1795 in , Darlington County, South Carolina.  He died on 9 Jun
 1877 in Hillsboro, Coffee County, Tennessee at age 82.  He is buried in Henry's Cove Cemetery
   in Hillsboro, Tennessee.
   
   John married Jane Burrows.
   
       4    M    iii.     William Charles was born about 1798 in South Carolina.  He died on 18 Jun 1867 in Hillsboro,
   Coffee County,  Tennessee about age 69.  He is buried in Henry's Cove Cemetery in Hillsboro,
   Tennessee.
   
   William Charles married Anna Henry, daughter of Samuel Henry and Sarah Robinson.
   
     5    M    iv. 
 
Melchizadeck Charles was born in 1800 in South Carolina.  He died in 13 Apr 1880 in Jackson 
   County, Georgia at age 80.
   
        6    M     v.   Solomon Charles was born about 1804.

Second Generation

5. Melchizadeck Charles was born in 1800 in South Carolina. 
Melchizadec Charles was a Methodist Episcopal Preacher in Gilmer County, Georgia
 He was accused of simple larceny and on March 29, 1840 he was sentenced to 1 year for Simple Larceny. 
He was pardoned on May 22, 1840.  By 1860, Melchisidec Charles had left
Gilmer County and relocated his family to Jackson County, Georgia
where he lived the remainder of his life.  He died 13 Apr 1880
in Jackson County, Georgia at age 80.

Melchizadeck married Mary Jay, daughter of Reverend David Jay Sr. and
Elizabeth Earp.  Mary was born in 1800 in North Carolina.  She died
after 1880 in Jackson County, Georgia.

Children from this marriage were:

       7    M      i.    Jesse Charles was born on 8 Sep 1815 in Warren County, Tennessee.  He died on 21 Jan 1903
   in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia at age 87.  He was buried at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
   in Gilmer County, Georgia.
   
   Jesse married Susannah L. Bramlett on 30 Jun 1839 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.  Susannah
   was born in 17 May 1822.  She died in 24 Jun 1901 at age 79.  She is buried at Pleasant Grove
   Cemetery in Gilmer County, Georgia.
   
8    M     ii.   James D. Charles was born on Abt. 1819 in Warren County, Tennessee.  He died 10 Jun 1856
   in Gilmer County, Georgia. 
   
 9     F    iii.   Zilphia Charles was born abt. 1823 in Georgia.  She died abt. 1865.
   
   Zilphia married Robert Bryant on 18 Jan 1845 in Gilmer County, Georgia.  Robert was born abt. 1824
   in South Carolina.  He died abt 1865. 
   
   10    M    iv.   
 William Charles I was born abt. 1829 in Habersham County, Georgia.
   
       11    F     v.    Sarah Jane Charles was born abt. in 1837 Gilmer County, Georgia.  She died before 1870 in
   Gilmer or Jackson County, Georgia. 
   
   Sarah Jane married Joseph A. Bryant on June 26, 1851 in Gilmer County, Georgia.  Joseph was
   born abt 1828 in Georgia.  He died before 1900 in Georgia.
   
       12    F    vi.    John W. Charles was born abt. 1837 in Gilmer County, Georgia.
   
   John married Mary Jane Bramlett on October 31, 1858 in Jackson County, Georgia. 
   Mary Jane was born abt. 1838 in Gilmer County, Georgia.

Third Generation

10. William Charles I was a Methodist Preacher in Gilmer County, Georgia. 
He was said have disappeared and left his family after  his church was burnt down. 
No other information is known about William.

William married Sarah Ray, daughter of Robert Ray and Mary Bramlett, on 18
Aug 1850 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.  Sarah was born on 2 Mar 1822
in Habersham County, Georgia.  She died on 19 Sep 1910 in Ellijay,
Gilmer County, Georgia at age 88.  She was buried at
Talona Baptist Church in Gilmer County, Georgia.

The only child from this marriage was:

   13    M    i.    
 William H. Charles was born on 30 Oct 1851 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.  He died on 19 Feb 
   1930 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia at age 78.  He was buried at Talona Baptist Church in Gilmer
   County, Georgia.

Fourth Generation

13. William H. Charles was born on 30 Oct 1851 in Ellijay, Gilmer County,
Georgia.  He died on 19 Feb 1930 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia at age
78.  He was buried at Talona Baptist Church in Gilmer County,
Georgia.

William married Celia Maude Bowman, daughter of Cornelius Bowman and Mary Ann
Nesbit, on 18 Apr 1887 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.  Celia was born
on 16 Jul 1867 in Georgia.  She died on 2 Mar 1963 in Canton, Cherokee
County, Georgia at age 95.  She was buried at Talona Baptist
Church in Gilmer County, Georgia.

Children from this marriage were:

      14    F     i.    Sarah Elizabeth Charles was born on 12 Jan 1888 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.  She died on
   6 Feb 1967 in  Gilmer County, Georgia at age 79.  She was buried at Talona Baptist Church in
   Gilmer County, Georgia.
   
   Sarah married Edward Barnes 25 Dec 1910 in Gilmer County, Georgia.  Edward was born on
 26 Apr 1870.  He died on 22 Jun 1928 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia at age 58. 
   He was buried at Talona Baptist Church in Gilmer County, Georgia.
   
  15    F     ii.  
 Mary Fanny Magdalene Charles was born on 28 Oct 1893 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.  She 
 died on 23 May 1986 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia at age 92.  She was buried at Keeter
   Cemetery in Gilmer County, Georgia.

Fifth Generation

15. Mary Fanny Magdalene Charles was born on 28 Oct 1893 in Ellijay, Gilmer
County, Georgia.  She died on 23 May 1986 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia
at age 92.  She was buried at Keeter Cemetery in Gilmer
County, Georgia.


Mary married Benjamin Harrison Burnette, son of
John Ellis Burnette and Mary Louiza Weaver, on 5 Dec 1909 in Ellijay,
Gilmer County, Georgia.  He died on14 Aug 1925 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia at
age 36.  He was buried at Talona Baptist Churchin Gilmer County, Georgia. 
The cause of his death was Tuberculosis.

Mary next married Hill Alexander Stroup on 2 Aug 1930 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia. 
 Hill was born on 1 Oct 1875.  He died 13 July 1936.
