This is how Dick and Sheila look today while living in Mesa, AZ. They retired in 1992. Dick worked for Martin-Marietta at Denver, CO for 34 and one half years. Sheila taught school for Aurora Public Schools in Colorado for 25 years. They soon became "snow birds" traveling in their motorhome during the Winter months. They found Roadhaven in Apache Junction, AZ. They spent 8 fun filled Winters there Square Dancing, playing tennis, golf, and games. They sang in the choir and mixed chorus. Dick served on the Board of Directors for three years. On December 29, 1995, Sheila was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. That disease put a crimp in Sheila's tennis and golf. Sheila exchanged those activities for computer usage and learning the art of stained glass. Because of difficulties with stairs, Dick and Sheila moved to Las Palmas Grand in Mesa, AZ to a house without stairs in January 2000. They found a nice house in Sunland Springs Village in 2003. It was located on E. Lomita Ave. in a very friendly neighborhood. His Mother would return to her Mother's home whenever she was about to give birth. This house was the place of birth for his older Brother, Doren, his younger Sister, Charlene, and younger Brother John Dennis. Dick's family moved to Blair, NE when he was in the 3rd Grade. His youngest Brother, Dale was the only baby of the family to be born in a hospital. Dick lived in that small town continuously through high school. He played football for the Blair Bears and played in the Blair High School Band. He worked in an auto parts store until he joined the Airforce in 1954. The Airforce sent Dick to boot camp at Lackland A.F.B. He was then sent to Cheyene, WY where he spent a cold Winter. He was then transfered to Grenier Field in New Hampshire. His last assignment was to McClellan A.F.B. in Sacramento, CA. This is how Sheila looked about the time she met Dick. Sheila was born in Tacoma, WA on Marine View Drive. She lived in a small Cedar Shake Sided house next door to her Grandfather and Grandmother, Roscoe Conklin Scruggs and Grace Louise Stead Thompson Scruggs. Sheila and her older Sister, Jackie, went to Dash Point Elementary. At the end of the Fourth Grade, Sheila's Father, John Crowder started traveling looking for work. He moved the family to several places along the West Coast. The family settled down in Sacramento, CA. Sheila's Mother divorced her Father when she was 14. Her Mother, Dorothy Mae Scruggs Crowder married Primo Lucas Vittori during her Sophmore year at Sacramento High School. She graduated in 1955 and then attended one year at Sacramento State, later to be named University of California at Sacramento. Sheila had a group of friends that she had known from the ninth grade at Sutter Junior High. They all attended the same church. One Sunday after church, Wanda, Betty, Carole and Sheila decided to go swimming at Slough House, CA (a local swimming hole). Since Wanda and Carole had boyfriends in town that weekend, Don and Betty went out to the base to invite a new Airman to go along. Dick decided that he would jump off the railroad tressle into the water hoping to impress one of the girls. He did. He impressed Sheila. Just about 2 years later, Dick and Sheila were married in the church at 24th and L St. in Sacramento, CA.
