This regiment was raised in the counties of Bryan, Screven, Liberty, Telfair, Henry, and Calhoun. FIELD OFFICERS: Wilson, Claudius C. - Colonel Winn, William J. - Colonel Ashley, W. P. M. - Lieut. Written by Bill Thanks Bill The 25th Ga Inf was organized during the early summer of 1861. C.C. Wilson, solicitor-general for the eastern portion of the State, was instrumental in forming the unit. It was mustered into Conf. service at Savannah in early Sep 61. On the basis of incomnplete records found concerning the unit's orgaization, it appears that it was the subject of a numer of reorganizations. These reorg. caused various companies to be relettered.(1st) was nicknamed the Black Creek Volunteers, and became Co D (2nd) Stephen G Baxter served in Co F, nicknamed the Altamaha Scouts. Nothing has been found to show exactly how many members of the 25 Ga Inf were still with the regiment when it finally surrendered in late Ap 65(at Bennett's House, Durham Station, NC.) Bill

My great great grandfather was in the same regiment and company he enlisted at Doctor Town ga.(Jesup) his name was RICHARD CORBITT. The Regiment served the first couple of years on the Georgia Coast and then foutht at Jackson, Mississippi And Vicksburg, Mississippi They also fought in the battle of Atlanta.
