JOE VERNON BAXTER

Contributed by Anne Rousseau, Thanks Anne

Now back to the Baxter Family. My husband, Joe Vernon Baxter, Jr.
was born 10/5/1923 in Liberty County. He
died July 7, 1958 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Fl.
He was the son of Annie Myrtle Jackson and Joe Vernon Baxter, Sr.. I do not
have a marriage date for them. The 1920 census of Liberty County shows him
still living at home with his parents. He was 21 years old. So they were
married between the time the census was taken in 1920 and March 25, 1921,
their first child --Vivian was born March 25, 1921. in Liberty County. Vivian
died March 20, 1972 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Fl. She is buried in the
Evergreen Cemetery on Main Street, Jacksonville, Duval County, Fl.--------
She is buried beside Joe, Jr.
Joe, Sr. and Myrtle's third child--- Ethel Baxter was born September 17,
1925 in Liberty County, Georgia, she married Allen Chambers. She still lives
in the house that she and Allen bought when he was released from the marines
after WWII. She no longer recognizes anyone and hasn't in 7 or 8 years. Her
daughter, Sharon takes care of her.
Their 4th child, Mildred Baxter was born (?). She married William Domen from
Pa., they had 4 children, 3 still living. Mildred lost her second husband
recently and has moved to North Carolina to be near 2 of the boys. The other
boy lives in Jacksonville.
The 5th child--- Edna Mae Baxter (b. unknown) married Wm. Blanchard and has
lived in Fl. ever since I have know them (in 1952). She had three children.
One was killed in a motorcycle accident on Trout River Bridge in Jax. when he
was 21.

Joe Sr. died either just before or just after Edna Mae was born of what Joe's
mother told me was Bright Disease. Joe Jr said his dad was only 28 when he
died.

Myrtle married again and moved to Jacksonville were she lived until she died.
1/11/1979. She is also buried in the Evergreen Cemetery across the way from
Joe, Jr. and Vivian. Her second husband was Ward Taylor, I believe he was
from Chatham County. He is buried beside Annie Myrtle.
Thanks,

Anne Rousseau
