William James Rigsby, 90 (date of birth - Oct. 24, 1915) passed away peacefully at his residence in Washington, D.C., Oct. 18, 2006. He was born in Rock Springs, Alabama, and preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Rigsby and Alice Pearl Rigsby, brother Robert Allen Rigsby, and sister Lelia Mae Rigsby Singleton. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys McKee Rigsby, son Mark McKee Rigsby, Newberry, S.C., daughter Martha Rigsby of the home, and several nieces and nephews in Alabama and South Carolina, and some cousins in Texas and elsewhere. Mr. Rigsby graduated from Troy State College in 1939 with a bachelors degree. He attended night classes at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and received a masters degree in education in 1943. He began his career in personnel administration in the federal government in Washington, D.C., in 1940 and retired in 1972. He was a life-long member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. His ashes will be interred in the cemetery of that Church in early spring; time of the service is to be announced. A Memorial service was held in Washington, D.C., Nov. 5. In lien of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Springs Baptist Church of Tallassee.
