Mrs. Eliza Jane Huggins
Bayles, one of the oldest residents of this
community and widow of the late Thomas Bayles,
died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Nettie Bissett, 15 Twentieth street, in the 95th
year of her age. Mrs Bayles was born in
Marshall County, the daughter of the late Thomas
H. Huggins. For many years she lived in
Marshall County and was widley known throughout
this section and Ohio, having moved here about ten
years ago. She was the mother of nine
children, two of whom are living. Mrs.
Bissett of this city, and J. D. Bayles of
Ballplaine, Kan Her husband preceded her in
death seven years. She was a memeber of the
Methodist Church and of the Women's Relief
Corps. Funeral Services will be held this
afternoon at 3:30 at the Schroeder

OF JAMES BAYLESS
DURHAM, Dec 20 - Died at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. James F. Adams,
near this place, Thursday, December 15, James
Bayless was 83 years. Deceased was well known in
Marion County, having resided for many years at
Knoxville. He resided in Des Moines for some time,
coming to Durham just after the death of Mrs.
Bayless, which occured last spring. He was an
honest man, a loving father and a good citizen,
and the sorrow occasioned by his death is genuine
and heartfelt. He leaves five children to mourn
their loss - Jacob, of Knoxville; William D. of
Memphis, MO; Andrew of Des Moines; and Mrs Adams
and Mrs. Harmon Wheeler, of Durham. The funeral
was held on Friday at 1pm and the remains were
interred in Eureka Cemetery.

OF LUCINDA PALMER PEARCE BAYLESS
CALLED HOME After an
illness dating back since last July, Mrs. W.D.
Bayless passed peacefully away to the great beyond
last Sunday at 4 pm. Funeral services were
conducted by Rev. Moore, pastor of the Christian
church, on Tuesday at 2 pm, interment being in the
Ball (Antioch Christian) Cemetery. Lucinda E.
Palmer was born June 11, 1844, being 67 years, 4
months, and 17 days old. On November 3, 1865, in
Marion County Iowa, she was united in marriage to
W.D. Bayless. Eleven children were born to this
union, nine of whom along with her husband are
left to mourn her departure. Deceased has been a
resident of Toluca for the past eight years with
the exception of about six months residence in
Iowa a year ago. She was a good, kind hearted,
christian woman, who was beloved and respected by
a large circle of freinds. The sympathy of the
entire community is extended to the husband and
children in this, their hour of sorrow.

BAYLESS MILLER
Margaret A. Bayless,
daughter of James and Rachel Bayless, was born
March 16th, 1856 in Marion County Iowa, and died
in Des Moines, Iowa at her brother Andrew Bayless
home, November 11, 1911, age 55 years, 7 months,
and 25 days. She grew to young womanhood in the
county in which she was born. On September 14th,
1880, she was united in marriage to Mr. James
F. Adams near Pella, Iowa, at
the home of her sister Mrs. Wheeler. Mrs. Adams
with her husband and his son united with the M.E.
Church Nov. 27th 1884 with the Salem class near
Durham and lived a consistent Christian life,
dying in the triumphs of a living faith. A few
years after Mr. Adams' death, on May 11th, 1902,
she was united in marriage with James H. Miller.
He preceded her to the world beyond Nov. 3rd,
1910. Mrs. Miller has been in declining health for
the past two years. She has been an invalid for
the past year constantly under the Dr's care. She
has lived with her brother, Andrew in Des Moines
since last June and remained there with the
exception of about one month. She leaves one
sister and three brothers and a host of friends to
mourn her death. The funeral occured November 13th
at 11 o'clock at Durham. In charge of Rev. E.O.
Rankin, after which she was laid to rest in Eureka
Cemetery, by the side of her husband.

Former Well Known
Knoxville Man Passed Away Tuesday Night After an
illness of more than eighteen months, Jacob
Bayless passed away at his home in Harvey Tuesday
evening, the victim of cancer of the liver. Mr.
Bayless formerly operated a grocery store where
Bishop's Cafe is now located on Main Street. He
was in business here for many years and had many
strong friends. About eight yeas ago he left here,
locating in Harvey and since that time he has been
a resident of that town. He was taken ill about a
year and half ago, his health steadily declining
under the ravages of the dread cancer. He took no
nourishment of any kind for four weeks and five
days previous to his death. According to word
receive here yesterday, the funeral services will
be held at Harvey this afternoon. Other details
regarding the funeral were not available
yesterday. It was thought, however, that Masons
will have charge of the burial service.

Mrs. Mary Josephine
Bayless, widow of the late Jacob Bayless died at
her in Harvey, Monday, July 21 at the age of 67
years. Mrs. Bayless had been in her usual good
health and many of her friends had called to see
her on Sunday. Late Sunday evening she was taken
ill and her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. White came to
answer her call for help. They in turned called
Dr. Ralston and other friends and neighbors who
came immediately, but she died in a few minutes at
an early hour Monday morning. Mary Josephine
Dennis daughter of George and Elizabeth Dennis was
born in Marion County March 5, 1874. She was
united in marriage to Jacob Bayless, March 7, 1894
and to this union was born one daughter. leila
Irene Thorp who nows lives in Berkley, California.
Mr. Bayless died June 29, 1926. Surviving Mrs.
Bayless are the daughter, three sisters and a
brother. Mrs. Laura Thompson, Oskaloosa; Mrs
Elizabeth van der Werff, Pella; Mrs. Loved
Mullane, Long Beach, CA; George A. Dennis, Los
Angeles, CA. Funeral services were conducted by
the Rev. Martin, in the Harvey Methodist church
Thursday, July 24 at 2 p.m. and burial was made in
the Eureka cemetery, near Harvey.

THE FINAL SUMMONS OF WILLIAM
DAVIS BAYLESS
At about five-thirty last
Sunday evening, the venerable William D. Bayless,
one of the oldest residents of Toluca, passed
peacefully away at the home of his son, John A.
Bayless on Santa Fe Avenue, after a two weeks
illness with dropsy and heart
trouble. The end came
peacefully and without struggle. Mr. Bayless has
been in poor health for about a year, but had
always been able to be up and around until about a
week ago, when he took to his bed from which he
never got up again. Despite his advanced age of 85
years, 4 months and 8 days, he has always been
hail and hearty, a good thrifty worker, and always
greeted his friends with a cheery salute when he
met them. William Davis Bayless was born in
Chillicothe, Ohio, September 14, 1842. When a
young man, he came with his parents to Iowa and
was united in marriage to Lucinda Palmer on
November 3, 1865. To this union was born twelve
children, eight of whom are living. They are John
Bayless, of Toluca; Loren of Tulsa; Phillip, Mrs.
H.O. Clark and Mrs. Della Schneckenberger of
Omaha; Sam of Texas, and Mrs Bertha Mehl of
Valley, Nebraska. He is also
survived by nine gradchildren
and six great grandchildren. All his children were
at his bedside when he passed away. Mr. Bayless
has been a resident of Toluca for the past 28
years. he was the only living G.A.R. veteran in
Toluca, and was made an honorary member of th John
Rolinski Post 440 American Legion, being always
termed " The Grand Old Man". Funeral services were
conducted at 2p.m. Tuesday, February 24th at his
late home on Linden Street by Rev. Renzer, pastor
of M.E. Church of Wenona, his remains were
interred in the Antioch Cemetery beside his wife
who had proceeded him in death anumber of years
ago. Business houses closed during the funeral
services and the funeral was largely attended.
John Rolinski Post #440 attended the funeral in a
body.

TOLUCA
Funeral Services for Well
Known Resident to be Held Saturday Mrs. John
Bayless, 73, daughter of the late Gilbert and Mary
Jane Thompson, died in her home at Toluca at 11
o'clock last evening, following a seven month
illiness. Funeral services will be held in the
home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with burial
following in the Antioch Cemetery. The marriage of
"Mattie" Thompson and John Bayless occurred in
Memphis, MO , March 25, 1890. It was there that
Mrs. Bayless was born, September 15, 1868. The
husband and one son, Roy Bayless of Toluca, are
left together with a sister Mrs. Addie Maier, also
of Toluca. Mrs. Bayless was a resident of Toluca
for 42 years.

John A. Bayless, 78,
died Saturday afternoon at his home in Toluca. he
suffered from a stroke of paralysis about eight
months ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday
afternoon at the home of his son, Roy, in Toluca,
with the Rev. Burl Candler, officiating. Burial
was in Antioch Cemetery. He was the son of William
D. and Lucinda Bayless, born October 27, 1866 in
Pella, Iowa. He had lived in Toluca for 45 years
working as a carpenter. He is survived by one son,
Roy. Mr. and Mrs. Bayless celebrated their 50th
wedding aniversary on March 25, 1940. Mrs. Bayless
died 3 years ago.
