KETTLE-KITTLE FAMILY

Missouri-Indiana-New York

Most of this research has been done by other members of the Kettle/Kittle family. My family in Missouri know who they are and I thank them. To the other members of the extended Kittle family in Indiana and other places, this line wouldn't have been possible without your extended research.

This is the old Kettle place [Callaway Co., Missouri] - north of Prairie Fork- James E and Martha Susan Boone Kettle moved from here in 1907. This house was torn down about 1946 and a new home built on property. This picture is courtesy of Bessie Weeks, grandaughter of James E. and Martha Susan.

 

Ancestors of:

James Gibson Kettle [he was the 1st born child] born the 22nd of August 1813 at **Harper's Ferry, Virginia to Solomon Kittle and Sarah Ann Gibson, and died the 8th of November, 1897 in Callaway County, Missouri.

He married September 18, 1834 in Dearborn County, Indiana to Charlotte Stewart [born 22 August, 1815, Hamilton Co., Ohio, died 20 April 1889 in Callaway County, Missouri].

[They were the parents of : 1.Mary Desdamonia "Molly" Kettle/Kittle; 2. Sarah E. "Sallie" Kettle/Kittle; 3. Solomon Kettle/Kittle; 4. Solomon Kettle/Kittle; 5. Syntha Kettle/Kittle; 6.James E. Kettle/Kittle; 7. Israel S. Kettle/Kittle; 8. Eugene Albert Kettle/Kittle and John W. C. Kettle/Kittle.

James G. Kettle enlisted in Regiment E. M. M., Company F & S., [ Union ] with the rank of Colonel December 12th, 1862 at Danville, Montgomery County, Missouri, and went into active service that day. He served 140 days in service and was relieved from duty, April 30, 1863. His son, Stephen S., served in the same company.

Note: the name of Kittle was changed in Missouri to Kettle. The will of James Gibson Kettle is signed with an "i".

Solomon Kittle, [father of James G Kettle] born 16th September, 1793 in Wood County, Virginia [now West Va.], and died 28 March 1879 at Rising Sun, Ohio County, Indiana. He is buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery, plot # 1, Rising Sun. Solomon was the son of Daniel Kittle and Catherine Crow?. Solomon Kittle married the 27th of May, 1813 to Sarah Ann [Sallie] Gibson, daughter of James B Gibson and Sarah B. [Sally] Ireland. [ she was born 21 September 1795 in Ky., and died 04 November 1885 at Rising Sun, Ohio]. they were the parents of the following children:

  1. James Gibson Kittle was born 22 Aug 1813 in Harpers Ferry, VA (now WV). He died 8 Nov 1897 in Prairie Fork, Callaway, MO.  
  2. Catherine Kittle was born 1815 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. She died 1885 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
  3. Elizabeth "Betsey" Kittle was born 8 Aug 1818 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. She died 18 Dec 1855 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
  4. William Kittle was born 1819 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. He died Sep 1852 in Jasper, IL.  
  5. Rachel Kittle was born 1819 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. She died 24 Mar 1885 in Greensburg, Decatur, IN.  
  6. Sarah A. Kittle was born 1823 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
  7. Thomas Kittle was born 1825 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
  8. Lavina Kittle was born 1826 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. She died in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
  9. John Gibson Kittle was born 26 Feb 1827 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. He died 2 Nov 1892 in Milan, Ripley, IN.  
  10. Andrew J. Kittle was born 1828 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. He died in Ripley, IN.  
  11. Lydia Kittle was born 29 Jun 1829 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. She died 21 Aug 1885 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
    Buried at Cedar Hedge Cemetery, Rising Sun, Ohio, IN. Never married.  
  12. Nancy Kittle was born 1832 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
  13. Solomon Kittle was born 1835 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.

Daniel Kittle, father of Solomon Kittle

Daniel Kittle (parents Abraham Kittle and Christina Westfall) was born 1766 in NY. He died 1823.
  Will dated 1816 Parkersburg, Wood, VA (now WV).  
  Daniel married Catharine Crow on 13 Sep 1790 in Minisink, NY. Catharine was born 10 Apr 1766 in NJ. She died 25 Apr 1855.
Daniel Kittle and Catharine Crow had the following children:
  1. Mary Kittle was born 1790.  
  2. Phineas Wood Kittle was born 1792 in Wood VA (now WV). He died 3 Jul 1841 in Rising Sun, Dearborn, IN.  
  3. Solomon Kittle was born 16 Sep 1793 in Wood, VA (now WV). He died 28 Mar 1879 in Rising Sun, IN.  
  4. Jacob Kittle was born 1794 in Wood, VA (now WV). He died in Posey, IN.  
  5. Elias Wood Kittle was born 1796 in Wood, VA (now WV).  
  6. John Wood Kittle was born 4 Jun 1797 in Wood, VA (now WV). He died 4 Aug 1843 in Lexington, Scott, IN.  
  7. William C. Kittle was born 20 Sep 1801 in Wood, VA (now WV). He died 2 Oct 1857 in Rising Sun, Dearborn, IN.  
  8. Daniel C. Kittle was born 1809 in Wood VA (now WV). He died 1888 in Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.  
Catharine Crow, wife of Daniel, was born 10 Apr 1766 in NJ. She died 25 Apr 1855.
  Last name could have been Chenoweth or Crum but this is not proven.
Buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemtery, SR 262, Rising Sun, Ohio, IN.		  
  Catharine married Daniel Kittle on 13 Sep 1790 in Minisink, NY. Daniel (parents Abraham Kittle and Christina Westfall) was born 1766 in NY. He died 1823.
Abraham Kittle, father of Daniel Kittle(parents Rutsjert Richard "Dirck" Kittle and Rachel Van Etten) was born 1 Jan 1731 in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY. He died 16 Sep 1816 in Randolph, VA (now WV).
  Abraham was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War,in Captain Anthony Shimer's Company, Colonel Jacob Stroud's, 6th Battalion of the Northampton County, PA militia in 1778, according to the muster roll for May 14th of that year he was a Lieutenant in this company. Pennsylvania Archives Fifth Series, Vol 8, p, 428. He is maybe buried at Sullivan's Crossing or Arnold Hill.  
  Abraham married Christina Westfall on 30 Aug 1754 in Machackemeck, Orange, NY. Christina (parents Johannes J. Westfall and Appollonia Kortright) was born 1736 in Minisink , Orange, NY. She died 22 Aug 1801 in Randolph, VA (now WV). [See below for Westfall information]
Abraham Kittle and Christina Westfall had the following children:
  1. Appollonia Prudence Kittle was born 1754 in Orange, NY. She died 8 Jun 1815 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  
  2. Jacob Kittle was born 26 Jul 1757 in Port Jervis, Orange, NY. He died 6 Jan 1844 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  
  3. Herbert Richard Kittle was born 20 Mar 1761 in Orange, NY. He died 14 Jan 1831 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  
  4. Moses Kittle was born 1763 in NY. He died 19 Mar 1826.  
  5. John "Jan" Kittle was born 28 Nov 1764 in Orange, NY. He died 25 Dec 1834 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  
  6. Daniel Kittle was born 1766 in NY. He died 1823.  
  7. Ingra Kittle was born 1768 in NY.  
  8. Engeltje Kittle was born 3 Jul 1769 in NY.  
  9. Abraham Kittle was born 18 Feb 1773 in NY. He died 17 Apr 1814 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  
  10. George Kittle was born 18 Feb 1773 in NY. He died 17 Nov 1813 in Wheelersburg, Scioto, OH.  
  11. Maria Kittle was born 1 Sep 1776 in NY. She died 5 Sep 1841 in St. Clair, IL.  
  12. Elizabeth Kittle died 7 Jan 1834 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  

 

Rutsjert Richard "Dirck" Kittle, father of Abraham (parents Jeremy Kittle and Elisabeth Classen Keator) was born 1697.
  Rutsjert Richard "Dirck" married Rachel Van Etten on 23 Dec 1723 in NY.

  5. Abraham Kittle was born 1 Jan 1731 in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY. He died 16 Sep 1816 in Randolph, VA (now WV).  
  6. Catharina Kittle was born 10 Feb 1734 in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY.  
  7. Lea Kittle was born in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY.  
  8. Zusanna "Susanna" Kittle was born 4 Jun 1738 in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY.  
  9. Maria Kittle was born 15 Jun 1740 in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY.  
  10. Samuel Kittle was born 8 Sep 1748 in Wawarsing, Ulster, NY.  

 

Jeremy Kittle, father of Rutsjert [Dirck](parent Joachim Ketel) was born Bef 1643 in Grimmen, Mecklenburg, Germany. He died 1705/1706 in Marbletown, Ulster, NY.
  Note: This line back on the Ketel/Von Ketel family line is NOT proven, onlyspeculation at this point. All the evidence points to a link but nothing can be found to prove this connection. This information is provided only as aPOSSIBLE link and every effort is being made to research this connection.Nothing in the records in New York State or the early Dutch records of NewAmsterdam indicate a ship manifest with Jeremy or Jeremiah Kittle/Kittel/Ketel on it. It is possible that his father's name was Jurrian Kittle.

WESTFALL FAMILY

from the emigrant Juriaen Westfall to Christina, wife of Abraham Kittle

Juriaen Westfall (Westvael) was born 1629 in Luyderdorp, Netherlands (Holland). He died Oct 1667 in Kingston, Ulster, NY.
  The first of this family to come to this Country was Juriaen Westvael. Hearrived in "New Amsterdam" at the age of thirteen aboard the ship Dehoutwun on August 4, 1642. He then went up the river 135 miles arriving at Fort Orange (Albany ,New York) on August 11, 1642. He arrived as an indentured servant to Kiliaen Van Reasselaer. He was placed in the home of Michael Jansen.
Juriaen moved south of Albany to Esopus (Kingston)with his friend and fellow indentured servant Evert Pels in about 1653.		  
  Juriaen Westfall married Marretje Hansen on Sept 1654 in Esopus, Ulster, NY. Marretje (parents Hansi Hansen and ? Volkert) was born 1636 in Nordstrand, Schleswig, Holstein, Prussia.
Juriaen Westfall (Westvael) and Marretje Hansen had the following children:
  1. Rymerick Westfall was born 1656 in Esopus, Ulster, NY. She died Abt 1716 in Kingston, Ulster, NY.  
  2. Niclaes Westfall was born Abt 1659 in Kingston, Ulster, NY.  
  3. Johannes Jurriean Westfall was born 1660 in Kingston , Ulster, NY. He died 1721 in Kingston , Ulster, NY.  
  4. Abell Westfall was born 1661 in Hurley, Ulster, NY.  
  5. Symen Westfall was born 1663 in Hurley, Ulster, NY.  
  6. Elsjen Westfall was born 1666 in Hurley, Ulster, NY.

  The surname Westfall is sometimes spelled Westphaal.
