Little Marion Fleming born 1847 Strathaven, Avondale parish, Lanark're,
dau of Robert Fleming & Marion Thomson Hamilton - she died tragically
just a few years later, apparently scalded by hot water on the stove for
washing her hair. This particular record which I can't find was the
only one for her, her death is recorded in the vs but not her birth.
... my grandmother's Bible:
Owned by Mary Hamilton Fleming [m William Chalmers Clark 1882],
[Mary died in 1947, age 93 or so, Vancouver, BC, bur Forest Lawn]
in my possession
Front page - "To dear Mamma with much love from Papa, Alick, Marion,
Chalmers, Janet, Tom & Mary (& Arnot) Christmas 1898."
Other side - taped newspaper clipping: "Diamond Wedding Anniversary
Today" [likely the Vancouver Sun]
Back page, Grandma's writing: "Alick Birth day July 21st; Marion Jan
17; Chalmers March 27; Janet November 17; Tom Dec 3rd; Mary March 30;
Arnot March 2nd"
[I can supply the years for all these if you wish - Arnot's was 1901]
[Finally, on inside black cover -partially torn]:
"Loving memory of my darling daughter Marion. God called her home on
Sabbath night the 3rd March 1907 at the age of 22. On earth I now can
hear the voice I loved so well ---- of my life is ever clouded ---
Lord has sent this cross I bear it all for the --- and care could death
prevent -- days would not so soon be spent -- desired but God did see
___- life was best for the[?].
By her loving mother Mary Clark"
[Marion is buried in Sleepyhillock Cem, Montrose, Scotland - she died of
TB just weeks short of the family emigrating to Winnipeg. My
grandparents never again were back in Scotland to visit the cemetery.]
