Peter J. Duffy
Peter
J. Duffy was born 15 Jul 1851 in Nassau, Germany, and died 03 Jan 1924 in
Matagorda, Texas. He first married Margaret Mary (Maggie) Vogg on 15 Jun
1876 in Matagorda, Texas. She was born 1856 in Matagorda, TX, USA, and died
in childbirth in 1878. Peter J. Duffy’s second wife was Josephine
Nolte. She was born 23 Aug 1858 and died 17 Jan 1920, both in Matagorda,
Texas.
After the Texas Revolution in 1836, Matagorda became an important port and during the Civil War it was one of eight Texas ports used by blockade runners who removed tons of cotton and delivered guns, munitions, clothing, and other goods to the Confederacy. It was at this port that Peter J. Duffy worked as a ship builder until a destructive storm in 1894 changed the depth of the harbor making it impossible for larger ships to enter the port.
Peter J. Duffy wrote his will in 1920 and it was probated 3 March 1924. In it he made the following bequeaths:
. . . I give devise and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Mrs. Annie E. Simons, the sum of twenty-five ($25.00) dollars and it is my desire that my executor pay this amount as soon after my decease as convenient.
. . . All the rest and residue of my estate, real, personal, mixed cash and notes, of which I shall die seized and possessed, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved children, Frank Duffy and Lula Duffy Marques, share and share alike.
Peter J. Duffy and both of his wives, Maggie Vogg and Josephine Nolte, are buried in the Old Cemetery in Matagorda.

1. Annie Elizabeth Duffy, born 18 June 1877 in Matagorda, TX, USA and died 30 June 1935 in Bay City, Texas. She is the subject of the next generation.
Children of Peter Duffy and Josephine Nolte were:
1. Frank Duffy, born 21 March 1881 in Matagorda, Texas and died 29 January 1961 in Matagorda, Texas. He married Fannie Nolte who was born born 09 April 1887 and died 13 March 1975. They had no children.
2. Edward A Duffy, born 29 April 1887 in Matagorda, Matagorda, Texas and died 28 December 1919.
3. Lula Duffy was born 01 October 1891 in Matagorda, Texas and died in November 1975 in Bay City, Texas. She married Whitney Joseph Marques who was born 29 April 1885 and died 07 April 1968 in Boling, Wharton County, Texas. They raised two daughters, Josephine and Lula.
